I turn my high beams on... and my ABS kicks in.. WTF????
Moderators please note: If you believe this belongs in the Advanced Evo Electrical section, please move and send me a PM informing me of such action, thank you
I don't know where else to post this, so here it goes...
So, tonight I am coming home from dinner with the lady and there is a road i like to give it some gas... so i did. My brakes are pretty beat so you can hear the scratching of the rotors... okay so i stop beating on it.
Then as I am pulling in to our neighbor hood i turn my high beams on.. oh **** what is that JERK from the car... my ABS kicked in... wtf
I did it again, high beams on... ABS kicks in again... one more time, ABS kicked in again...
I get home, let the car idle for a bit.. then i turn my lights completely off for a few minutes... then turn them back on.. alright, cool. Turn them off again, and flick my high beams on.. car wants to die.. flick them on again.. car wants to die. I continued to flick them on and off to see if it would actually kill the vehicle.. and it did.
At this point the battery is dead and the car will not start... i go and blow on the terminals and the car starts right back up.. i turned on the headlights, all good... did the flicker test with my high beams and everything was all good
So, here is the deal, i worked on my car about a month back and i removed the negative terminal and lost the nut, so i purchased one from the hardware store... could that be the problem if it was a certain metal?????
Two, i recently had to recharge the battery for our jeep so i could move it and when i removed the little red protector from the positive terminal i managed to crack it a bit, but it is still intact and covers the positive terminal, could that be my problem????
Could it be that my brakes are just ****ed????
I am really at a loss here guys...
My mods currently are;
-TBE
-HKS Drop In Filter

have your battery tested
No, metalurgy of the terminal nut has nothing to do with it.
Pull your abs fuse and try again.
Theese two systems have nothing to do with eachother.
Are your instruments showing an ABS light when this happens?
Get your brakes done, and check the ABS sensors.

When I got home, had the car idling and the lights turned off and I flicked the high beams on, I would get a CEL light and the car wanted to die.
I will be cleaning the terminals today, checking ABS Fuse, ABS Sensors.
I should of done my brakes a little while back, as I recently thrashed on them for 3 track days, but I do not really drive my car very much other than to the grocery store so I thought it would be fine... guess not

I have 2-piece rotors coming soon, and I am going to mic the stock rotors to see if I can have them resurfaced for a set of extras.
thanks
Will do that in the next few days, thanks!
No, this is not the first time I have ever used my high beams. This IS the first time I have turned them on and this happened.
Where exactly is that? I think i have an idea of what you are talking about but not 100% sure
Keep the suggestions coming!

not sure if you have a wiring diagram for your evo, but I would check it to see if they routed the High beam wires with the ABS power wires in the same bundle. If so, I suspect that you have a short between the two....
