Pop MECHANICS says likely to get EVO without ACTIVE DIF!
Mordeth: Points well taken. I think you've provided plenty of evidence that something is being done. Let us all hope that the measures are effective, as then we the consumer will be the winner for once.
Back to the subject at hand... First off, I am confident that P.M. was making a guess about the diffs being mechanical LSDs. Their editors have probably never seen an Evo7 in street trim, so to them the active diffs probably seemed like something only the race version would have. But we know that the street Evos have been sold with the ACD elsewhere in the world.
Also, in all truth, it would probably be *more* expensive to slap on a vicious coupling and a pair of mechanical LSDs. Why you ask? Simply because the development of the AYC/ACD system is already done and paid for - it was mostly developed out of the WRC budget. Yes the parts for mechanical diffs would be cheaper, but
would be throwing away a lot of quality R&D (and money) in order to provide an inferior system.
Lastly,
/Ralliart recently finished step 2 of the Evo7 WRC car. From World Rally News :
I'd think we're more likely to see this (or a variation of it). It is possible that the revised system could eliminate the need for a 3-way function switch.

The Step 2 Lancer has new front suspension, revised rear suspension and new transmission, although it is expected to work along the same lines as the old car’s, relying on electro-magnetic control of the differentials and a sprag clutch that connects drive to the front wheels only when the rears begin to spin.
If Mitsubishi waters it down I'm buying an Impreza.
No matter what the Evo will be priced and have generally the same specs as the STI. They have to be about the same, as they are competing against each other.
Hooby
lol witht he exstra money mitsu would charge you to have a factory installed active yaw control you could just buy one im sue they will have one out if they dont come with one and it will probably be better anyway
this sucks i spent all my money on my american lancer and i got no cash for my evo i need to fin a job

I can see why Mitsu would do something like that but they didn't go that route with the 3000GT. That had way more gadgets that the Evo, Active Aero, adjustable suspension, four wheel steering all on top of the twin turbo and AWD setup. So maybe there is some hope.
If
uses a VCD how is it any better than the Impreza? And if you're calling me a bandwagon hopper then call me a bandwagon hopper. Brand loyalty is for drivers who finish 2nd.

Who cares about band wagons anyway.
Go for whatever you want, speed or style.
Frankly I think the
looks better than the Subie. And for all intents and purposes is much faster.
You guys should go get the latest issue of Sport Compact Car.
They have a test between a jap spec evo and their HEAVILY modified subie. I'll give you one guess who won.....in every catagory.
Even if
does water down the evo. every parts company is making something for this car. In no time flat (with a couple hundred bones at your side) an evo will be faster.
I'm betting on
to give the evo about 250hp. And it's going to be close to 30k. But looking at what they give you to work with.

Sport Compact just reported the same thing in their test of the Euro-Spec EVO VII and their WRX project car comparison. Not trying to be a magazine racer, but, it would seem that the ACD is what makes the EVO so special as an impartial observer. I mean, I love the EVO over most every other car, and in fact, it will probably be my version of the Corvette, in that it would be my coveted weekend *****-to-the-wall-fun-machine that I'll get when I'm 40 or so, and financially stable, but, as far as just looking at it from the point of view of a completely impartial observer, the ACD makes it the car it is. Without it, it is "just" a 270 hp AWD car, which sounds silly, I know, but, compared to the car that in the comparison test got within 2 mph of the fastest car ever to go through SCC's slalom section whereas a HP similar Scooby didn't even come close... just means that I think that the US spec will be behind the whole world (yet again) if they do indeed do this mistake of mistakes.
You can't compare a wrx to an evo!!! How many times do I have to repeat myself????? The WRX STi is the evo competitor. The SCC WRX is far from highly modified, just basic bolt ons
Put the evo up against my friend's wrx..it makes 357 WHEEL hp, it only has $5k into it too. Don't believe me call turboXS.

Okay, B, I know how sensitive you are about your Scooby's, and I do realize I didn't clarify, so, let me say that when I refer to the "Scooby", I am referring to the STi, and the first Rex I was talking about was the SCC Project car. However, the STi doesn't compare to the EVO with the ACD by all accounts I've read that I can find. I believe, but I am not positive, that it was either Automobile Magazine, or one of the "lesser" (by lesser, I mean not the usual mod rag I read, not lesser known) mags out there that compared, in the UK, the EVO and the STi, and said the STi had nothing on the EVO due to the ACD. This was about two months ago, so, if I could, I would go back and check out the magazine rack at Target. The other thing is that I think that SCC isn't quite as perfected as the STi, but, to quote SCC:
...[a] face off between the Euro-spec [EVO] and our very own Project Subaru WRX. Don't laugh, the Scooby is far from stock. We've so vastly improved every facet of its dynamic performance we'll dare liken it to Subaru's own STi version. Sure, it doesn't have the STi's exotic inverted struts; in fact, the only suspension mod on our car is a Progress Technology rear anti-roll, but t does pack 51 more hp than stock, 12.0 inch AP rotors and Brembo four-piston calipers and sticky Falken tires on lightweight 17-inch wheels. Surely, it's approaching territory. But does any of that matter when it's facing the EVO' computer-controlled drivetrain, greater power and bigger tires?...
So, look, I know it's not the STi, but I thought the comparison was worthy, and I'm sure that you'll disagree, and probably with good cause. I don't know the first thing about the STi, honestly, and if you say that the SCC isn't close, I'll take your word for it. But, like I said, another magazine compared both the Euro-specs for both, and said the EVO was in a league of it's own. So, I defer to superior knowledge and experience in that respect.

Oh, and as for your friend's Rex, I believe you on that, and I have to say that the Exxtreme version of the EVO VII overseas is listed as running low 11s, which, I've read, that particular version of the EVO is similar to what Rousch did to the Mustang GT in the Stage III package, and available for specialty sale. Admittedly, I don't know much about the car in particular, but, I think it's proof of these cars great potential, especially the boxer-esque engine of the Rex. Out of curiousity, I will ask how he got his dyno, because I've been reading about some problems that people have with getting their AWDs accurately dyno'd. That may be a question for another forum, but, let me reiterate that I ask that not out of disbelieve, but, just inquisitiveness.

My sources tell me that car will not have AYC etc... because it will make gas tank too small for North American market and warranty issues. Because of these major revisions and others car will be significantly changed, not watered down but....
It will be and EVO 8!!!
