a long and risky drive ahead of me

i have an 03 evo with a lot problems well because the dealership sold it to me with out changing anything on the car (oil, tranny fluid, anything) the only they thing they do to the evo was give it a price tag.
so after trying with extended warranty it ended up with a gamble of having the warranty company fix everything or paying 1500 just to open up the transmission on top of paying money to fix the car
so now im leaving from Ohio to Lansing Illinois (which just out side of Chicago)
So the plan is to meet at the dealership with my mom (im 17 and shes better at raising hell them me )

Currently the problems with my car are
Metal shavings were found when changing the oil and tranny fluid
a clunking when shift from the left front axel leaking
oil pan and temp. sensor leaking oil
and a worn clutch

i'm bring some extra oil, tools, hopes and wishes, and one hell of a personality for the dealership

i'll keep you guys posted on whats going on
Oh and anyone on here thats free today and close by to Chicago feel free to come down to River Oaks Honda say hi or raise more with me

No he means "AS IS" meaning no warranty. It will be specified on the window on a warranty sheet. Usually 2 check boxes Warranty and AS IS

Good luck. I heard that in IL, they can do anything when it comes to selling cars. Usually cars are sold as is and there is nothing you can do about it. Even if your mom can raised hell on them, I don't think it will do you any any good. Try a lawyer if that will work. GL

its common to see some metal shaving in the trans when changing the fluid. but the oil is a different story

none of the stuff you mention looks terminal unless you run it out of oil.

You could have the car repaired at a shop up there before the drive, or least looked over.

have you driven the car ? maybe you can get a list member to drive it ?

if you cant do any of these, think about getting AAA or have your insurance updated to included free towing (flatbed only). I am sure having a 17 year old insured on an evo has got to be a staggering number so the they policy change might be like 50 bucks a year.

Clutch, CV's/boots, oil pan gasket (unless its just the sender gasket), engine mount, The tranney shavings are pretty normal unless its excessive. If its the sender itself I am told you cant buy it separately from mitsu as its calibrated to the gage.

Anyways keep oil in it. Have a good cell phone and monitor it on the way home.

to an extent yes. as is or not, il does have laws to help buyers. they arent the greatest, but there are some. i believe they mostly work with drive train and severe issues with the car.

had this problem with my brothers evo that was sold as is. trans case was sealed with jb weld, yes jb weld. it was in a spot where you wouldnt see it unless you have the car on a lift. trans went and we needed a new case. il law stated that they have to cover a certain percent of the repairs within certain time limits of the purchase.

we then found out the car was a rebuild and they forged papers saying we signed them knowing about it. after a lot of phone calls back and forth we reported them for tax fraud (they didnt put the correct price for sale on any of the papers) and i believe they arent in business anymore. in the end he wanted to keep the car so we just got it all straightened away. takes a lot of research to find good info about it though.

the car should run fine as long as it doesnt run out of oil. just stop and check the fluid levels every hour or so. just gotta keep a close eye on everything.

Every Day i work with at least 15 dealers plus, everyday, If it says AS IS thats exactly what it means, there are more laws protecting them then the buyer. the only way around it is if they promised that everything was 100% or if the car was in a accident, flooded. . ect. and it wasn't on car fax or they didn't state it. basically They might change your oils as a courtesy but more then that i wouldn't drive that far just to be ignored by the dealer.

good luck hopefully you get it fixed, sounds like a big headache, my mom would be saying something along the lines of "i told you not to buy that car" right about now

i went the through the same thing with carmax and learned about this "as is" clause. long story short, i got stuck with a 2700 transmission because the 4th gear synchro went out and the clutch was toasted. The warranty was useless cause the called it a "Race Car" and assumed i raced it

well im back safe in ohio and the trip went perfect no problems at all from the evo
when i hit the dealership it went straight to service center and the used car mechanic with me along side and here's what happend

i found that the oil filter cap was the wrong size, there was no o-ring for the oil pan and a broken oil temp sensor
first thing was an free oil change. No metal shavings (a lot off my mind)
figured out that metal shavings were normal (me being 17 and stupid0

a lose clamp around the left front axle (exactly what it was) which was cause a leak which was making that "clunking noise". It was tightened and no more clunking noise

Free tail lights that they ordered when were first they buying the car

and them saying there was nothing wrong with the clutch

so... someone is lying to me either it's goodyear saying about the shavings from the oil pan and a mitsu dealer ship and their list of repair parts or the car dealership. And all of them want money

so i decided to drive the evo less, do oil changes myself after the winter, and keep a closer eye on it.

oh and i've been getting hell from the mom ever since the start she hates mitsu
she was born in Maylasia and she always tells me "when i was growing up nobody wanted a Mitsu because they were crap(with a chinese accent to top it off)"

and anyone around Canton, Akron or Cleveland pm me please i would like your opinion when you drive my evo
