Hi guys/girls i am new to evo's and picked up my first Evo iv Yesterday. The car has the standard bov and air intake with full decat and evo 8 injectors. My problem is when i picked it up it drove fine. I stopped at the services after around 50 miles and it started fine again. When i got it home about another 70 miles i turned it off and went into the house to get my girl friend to have a look. Problem !!!!! I tryed to start it and it will not fire it turns over but will not catch. Tryed it again about 3 hours later and still the same. Tryed to jump start it with the subaru but still the same. So my new evo is sat outside the house

Please help me with your thoughts of what the problem could be

Right i have checked the fuses under the steering wheel and the ones in the engine bay. Can some one tell me how to check if petrol is getting to the engine. On the subaru you can hear the petrol pump priming but can not here nothing in the evo

turn the key on, then, on the fuel rail, there should be a test port that has a schraeder valve in it. push the shraeder valve and fuel should come out. an auto parts store probably has a cheap pressure gauge you can hook up to check pressure. with the key on, you can also take a test light and go to the hot wire on the pump to see if it is getting power. good luck.

 

often times it's an ignition problem, bad spark plugs or coil

 

Thanks i unpluged the fuel pump conector and with the ignition on i had 2 live feeds one was a dull light and the other was bright so i think the pump is getting power.

Right when i pushed the car on to the drive with the ignition on i couls here a wiening noise is that the fuel pump. Can not belive i have bought this car and can't drive it

3 basic things you need for your car to run: Fuel, Spark, Air

Fuel:
Turn the ignition to On and to check the Schraeder valve. If you can see/smell fuel, you should be good there.

Spark:
Pull the spark plugs first and make sure they are all good. Re-install them and ensure the spark boots are tight. (Being VERY careful) Pull one out at a time and ground the annode to the chassis while someone turns over the engine. If each sparks, you should be good there.

Air:
Do a leak-down test. Pressurize the intake side of the turbo with an air compressor and listen for air leaking out of the intake track anywhere (Intercooler piping, throttle body, intake manifold, etc). Do a search for a how-to and you can find some of the equipment people have made to do this test.

Let us know these results and we can work from there.

 

Hi can you tell me where the Schraeder valve is i can not see it. No noise from fuel pump today. I checked the spark plugs and they are white on the tips is this ok.Two were covered with oil where the red top is not bolted on very tight. How tight should the bolts be. All cleaned up and put back together. but still no joy.
