For all the So. Cal. peeps, wanting a EVO8
I went to that same dealer about two months ago to get on their waiting list. They're not taking deposits, but they have a first-come, first-served list.
The sales manager their at HB Mitsu told me during that same visit that it'll be the Evo 8, and that they expect to charge at least $5k over MSRP to begin with. They also said they only expect to get "a few cars" in the first year.
MSRP+5k=

negotiating a fleet sale of EvoVIIIs for best price
Hi, Guys:
Has anyone considered trying to negotiate a deal with a fleet manager in order to get a really aggressive price? I noticed that someone has done this in another forum for the WRX STi -- basically, anyone who's a member of the forum (much as I'm a member of this forum, even though this is my virgin post) can pre-order a WRX STi for $1500 over invoice from several dealers who are participating in giving discounts to WRX forum members who pre-order and leave a deposit ($1,000, I think). Subaru guarantees that pre-ordered car orders are filled before regular dealer allotments (this may mean something as the number of cars is limited). And of course, paying only $1500 over invoice is about as good a price as you can hope to pay for a desirable screamer like a STi or an Evo VIII.
It would seem that this is a much better approach if you're going to put a deposit down. Just thought I'd throw that out there on the off chance that this hasn't occurred to anyone yet.
Incidentally, the EvoVII seems superior to the WRX STi in terms of raw performance (all the reviews suggest the Evo VII is more capable), but I admit to being unimpressed with the interior of a rental Lancer (ES?) I had a few weeks ago -- does anyone happen to know if the Evo interiors at least slightly upgraded? By way of comparison, I think the WRX interior is fine, and I could live with it for a daily-driver no problem, so if the EvoVIII is going to be comparable, I'd be happy.
Good Luck,

Buyers' group
Yeah, the grouped purchasing power is much better. Usually nobody can get organized but it would not be hard to do. As a matter of fact, I'd be willing to bet that there will be more than a few dealers who would be very willing to take our money and negotiate a group-sell rate. As a matter of fact, I'd be more than happy to fly to wherever (in US) to negotiate transaction with a large dealership. If 10 of us were to negotiate as a group, we'd have more leverage (one salesperson making commission and bonuses on 10 cars at once...and a lot of $ can be made by charging for all the options, even if selling the base vehicle at 1500 over invoice.
Any dealership which isn't getting "enough" can get the car from another dealer before they even offload in port.
Also would want to know details of purchase state and registration state and taxes. I'll send you a PM on that.
Anyone else want to start a buyers' group? I'm #2 now.
