My wife drove my car around in the snow a few times in Colorado when I was deployed and she said she loved it and that was with the stock Advans. I drove it here once in the snow since they don't salt the roads and I was the fastest moving vehicle on the road and I was running cheap Primwell tires and didn't have a problem.

Primewell's on an evo? Primewell's aren't even made anything over an H rating. That's why they're 7.34cents for 4 tires. Good call

I got a few good snaps in my link of my evo on the still icy but plowed street.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...nter-bath.html

Washing the salt off is a big thing with me because they lay it down heavy here.
I am on Goodyear Eagle Gt's and it does really good in snow mode, just don't get a
big head cause its awd it is still essentially snow and ice. Have fun!

lol, yeah they were pretty cheap and I don't really drive the car that much so I'm rocking those until I get a new setup. They are good if you want to do 4 wheel burnouts and punch it around the corner to slide sideways all over the road!

that is why you put it on in the snow and took it off when you are not in it I still think the proper skinny tires with studs the way to go over the chain .

remember only connection between the road and your car is the tires... ANd wont matter if your car is the most advanced AWd today.

Makes it really difficult to stop or turn in the snow sometimes.
I have the same tires on the RA, works wonders on snow. Night and Day in handling. But just like anything else if you stomp on the gas you will slide. Basically you have a pretty decent advantage with snow tires versus All-Seasons upwards of 50% better control. Snow tires are meant to operate in low temperatures, a special compound in them allows them to be more flexible to get more traction unlike all-seasons. Plus they are made to grip better against ice.

I picked up a set of Blizzak's from Craigslist.

a mom and pop tire shop had them, some guy traded them a set of mercedes wheels with 225/45/17 blizzaks and they were trying to get rid of the tires as they had been sitting at the shop. It cost me $200 for the set, including mount/balance.

It was an amazing difference going from the crappy nearly-bald all seasons that were on the car when I got it before X-Mas. Incredibly planted. Tracks through the snow better than my 4x4 truck with all seasons.

+1, and not just because snow tires are required by law here in Quebec from the 15th of Dec to the 15th of march; it's really a night and day difference.

If you drive safetly you'll be fine. The evo is ment to be driven, just don't go up there with "Ultra High Performance Summer Tires" lol

I've driven on the stock Advans once in snow, and never again. I was sliding all over the place and could barely stop. I wnet and got some Blizzaks and they make it an entirely different animal. I could go thru 8" unplowed snow. The only thing that stops it is the car gets lifted up after that.

Summer tires are scary, dont do it. Just bought Conti extreme winter contacts 235 45 . Not the high performance winter tire that i used to run in the dry (Goodyear Eagle Ultragrip GW3's, They were Awesome) but really quiet and will cruise at 80 no problem on interstate, plus i had to penny pinch this time around. I plow snow so i am out in the deep stuff and you will be fine.
