snow run with advans, dont do it!!!

yesterday was a clear day here in rancho cucamonga/rialto area, with some overcast. It was the day a couple of buddies planned to go up to the mountains and take a scenic run. We started off on the 15N, and exited silverwood lake 138 hwy, and climed up to the mountains.

As we started approaching the top, it was getting darker and darker, at this point ive heard all the horror stories and said to my buddy mike, "this is not good" we commenced trolling above to mountain High resorts and snow started comming down, we stopped and took some pictures and continued the drive.

Suddenly the snow turned to rain and quickly to snow again, as were driving windy roads going 60-80 mph, now 10-20 mph. My buddy had no problem with these weather conditions, he has all weathers. Suddenly I feel tire slip, and i said ****ttt, and a lil down the road we banked in on a turn going about 15 mph, and my car decided to let loose the tarmac and take a mind of its own, it completely slips off course and we started drifting to the gutter, we couldnt counter steer, or accelerate, as we were drifting out of the road we were scared as hell, had there not been old hard ice in the gutter, I would of definately ruined the evo by hitting the guard rails.

so after enountering this, a couple of minutes in cold/rainy/snowy conditions ive learned that.....
ILL NEVER TAKE MY EVO WHEN IT SNOWS

Yeah, we try to warn people all the time against doing this. The Advans have no business in those conditions. I learned the hard way, but luckily I didn't have a wreck.

Why even try the advans in the winter? It's a dumb move. Theres enough warning stickers on the car already telling you the tires aren't meant for snow/cold conditions.

I guess no one reads the owners manual warning about the Advans in rain and snow.

I hear about people wrecking their Evos in rain and snow all the time. Put some good all seasons on it and the Evo will rock, even in snow.

Well thanks for stating the obvious. The car doesn't come with a warning sticker for nothing.

It can be done. I've done it with no problems. However, after driving the car with winter tires for the first time this season, I wouldn't want to miss out on the fun I have with them.

I thought this was a well know fact?! I knew they were bad since they didnt have traction in the rain when it was cold.

I bought my Evo used and the original owner had sold it with Pirelli all seasons because I am guessing he also didn't want to ruin the car in the snow with the stock tires.

Mitsu's an idiot for putting that tire on a car in the north. They should realize that they are part of the reason why our insurance is so high because id definitely say that a lot of the accidents with Evos are from people losing control of them in the rain and especially in the snow/ice. Granted, a lot of them are probably not perfectly either, but im sure that a good pair of all seasons stock in the north would be worth it... Then we'd all get summer tires eventually and realize the difference

Just a thought
