Does your EVO have a Rev-Limiter?

I think the Mitsubishi Evolution VIII is the only Mitsu without a factory rev limiter. I have noticed this with at least 10 EVO's in that the owner's have pushed their cars up to 8,000 R.P.M. without any drama from the factory E.C.U. These were all stock cars BTW without re-flash or piggy-back bs.

Does your EVO have a rev limiter?

I don't think thats accurate.. I'm uncertain if there is a rev limiter, but there appears to be a fuel cut according to several posts in other threads..

The stock rev limiter kicks in at 7,500 RPM (+ or - 100) and is a fuel shutoff style limiter. Much less harsh than an ignition shutoff style limiter.

There IS a rev limiter that kicks in at exactly 7606 rpms

ALL evos have it

My Stage REV Dyno Flash can change it to any RPMS you want - we recomend 7800 max on stock engine - that give you more mph in 4th through the 1/4 mile

The base Stage Rev is going down in price to $79.99 just as soon as my web man posts it up on my page

Really? Of the one's I rode in, they did not work. Each one was shifted at 8K with no rev limit or fuel cutoff.

Are you sure? Mine definitely kicks in around 7600rpm.. when you hit it, you KNOW.. if you downshift its possible for the engine to go over the limit, but that has nothing to do with the rev limiter.. I don't abuse my car so I can't really say that I've payed much attention to it or attempted to see what it is intentionally..

could be the view angle from the passenger side made the rpms look higher than they were

I considered that but then I drove the car myself and pushed it to 8K with no problems.

Mine definitely has a fuel cut off even with my re-flashed ECU

Could this be a factory tach accuracy issue? I have a REV limit and my SAFC rpm monitor shows just over 7600 as Al said. My Integra Type R would show past 9K, but the cut was not that high. Seems like most factory tachs are less accurate the higher the RPM ranges. When I look at my SAFC compared to my EVO tach reading it starts to differ past 4K. Not sure how accurate the SAFC is, but I would guess it is fairly good.

Just my 2 cents

Chris
