Weighed My 04 RS Today
If I were DD my evo for the 30lbs the crash beams would be in the car.
I have owned many wrecked evos bought from auctions and you wouldnt believe what a 30mph accident will do to one. The bumper beam helps alot.
But that is just my .02 cents

Second, the "crash beam" are NOTHING more then "bumper supports"
They are only rated to 5mph and are only they to save insurance companies money. In minor fender benders, it makes it so insance companies have to pay less to fix the car.
All JDM and EDM and other market EVOs do NOT have the "crash beam". They are a US only item and only on the car because of US insurance companies. They have NOTHING to do with safety.

Even though its not my DD, I do drive it a good amount on the street and I dont like/want to have it gutted.
About the crash beams - yes they are rated to 5mph (which is when most rear endings occur), but they still help at whatever speed.
Yes it's for insurance companies to save a little money - but don't forget that they WON'T insure you if they find out you don't have it on

And yes, insurance companies will deny full coverage claims if you have the "crash beams" removed. My EVO only has liability insurance (Legal requirement in CA) on it, as it a fun/project/track car. Like I said, my EVO is not my DD. I do drive it on the street some times though.
Regardless, I DONT RECOMMEND OR SUPPORT REMOVAL OF YOUR "CRASH BEAMS". DO AT YOUR OWN RISK.

wow i really thought the RS' came outa the factory right around the 3000lb mark
so the reason for no ABS, no radio/speakers, no power windows/locks, no wing etc etc is more for a savings cost standpoint then a weight savings?? or both

i think mitsubishi made the RS evo are rediculous. I mean 30k $ without AC, RAdio and power windows. These parts combined weigh at around : radio ,speakers=20lbs, power windows= 20lbs, air condition, condenser= 30lbs. , No rear wing= 20lbs, Total of around 90lbs.
Wow, 90lbs lighter than reg. evo , might run lil' quicker,
