ok i own a lancer es not an evo
but anyway a bout a month ago i went to the mitsu dealership to check out the evos. just to look not to buy. anyway i go inside and check out the floor model. i go back outside and one of the silver evos i saw on the way in is gone. then it pulls up i see the owner of the dealership in the car and he took some dude for a ride. So i asked if i could ride to. he told me get in. Anyway we pull off the lot and blast to 80mph in like no time. we cme to a stop at a stop sign and the dude launches the **** out of the car and immediatly slams the brakes for a stop sign. then launches hardcore again. and its a straight shot from there onto the highway with a hardcurve just before the highway. we take this hardcurve at about 100 mph. then ge slams the brake to yeaild again. i can already smell hot brakes from just 2 stops now all we have to do is make a left to be on the road of the dealership. we are at a stop light waiting for the left. its goes green the dude launches and we go into a semi-drift. then we show up at the dealership. this dude just ran the crap out of the car in like 5minutes. i walk by the brakes and i can feel the heat. and the thing running through my mind was "this dude is gonna sell this evo to some unlucky customer and when something goes wrong its the customers fault!"
so just to let you know what kind of crap goes on at the dealerships before you get your car. oh yeah and i know a guy who actualy works at mitsu as a mechanic. he says when they first got the evos in the were launching them and doing all the fun stuff in the parking lot just to see hat they could do and to show them off for the salesmen.

I'm not saying I would do it or that I condone it, but it's easy to see where these guys are coming from. These guys can do whatever they want to the cars during work hours as long as they can sell the things in the end. It's painfully obvious that some of those cars are going to get destroyed, even with short drives.
We know this will and does happen, but the answer isn't to say this and shrug. There needs to be some sort of supervision and/or consequence for dealers who do this. Besides the fact that it's just "mean" and "wrong", the salespeople are doing things that Mitsubishi clearly states not to during break-in. What if the guy smokes the clutch? The buyer gets the car and reads some of the posts here. Oh, bad clutch. Damn Mitsubishi.
One of the dealers down here is pretty nice. He doesn't allow Evolution test drives, but he owns one himself. He regularly mods it and has built it up to become a kind of showpiece for the dealership. He gladly shows it off to people, takes them for drives, and is able to push the car within reason. Not all dealers have to do this, but it certainly eliminates any abuse by employees.

There is a certain dealership in Northern New Jersey that saves some cash by driving the 20 plus miles from the port. I'd never buy a car from them for just this reason.
I really think big dealers at the least should have demo cars for test-drives.

I think Maywood Mitsubishi does this. I asked the salesman and salesperson how many miles on the cars and they both said no more that 50miles. To me, that's not a new car anymore.
Thats why I pick a dealer (that will NOT allow test drive) to get my EVO with only 4 miles on it ! at this dealer the EVO is NOT even park outside parking lot. All 6 EVO park inside the service area and NO one can get the key except the Manager, even after when they wash my car and ready for me to pick up, I saw the Manager drive the EVO out of service area to the front parking lot ! Not even the salesman who sold the car to me can drive the EVO !

Dude I went on the same ride from that same salesman (Fernando@North Point Mitsu off 1604 right?) Except it was in a yellow Evo that has since been sold to some poor customer. The freakin car had 6 miles on it and he was wringing it out like it was a damn rally car. Everything that he did was hard from the launches to the stops and that loong turnaround under 1604 (took it at 70MPH!!!) Someone should definitely say something about this type of behavior to MMNA, I wouldn't want to buy an EVO that has been treated like that for the first 50 or so miles, I understand about breaking stuff in hard but come on, thats my job

I agree, this kind of irresponsible behavior by "Salesmen" should be punished by Mitsubishi.
We can "protest" poor ethics like this by simply refusing to buy a car with more than 10 miles on it. It's rather tough for a dealership to keep less than 4 miles on a vehicle, 10 seems to be reasonable, but abuse could still occur. If a test drive simply must be given, Mitsu might give an allowance or free extended warranty on one test mule per dealership. I got mine with 7 miles and no test drive was allowed. If I can I prefer to see my car roll off the truck (my old BMWs).
In fact my EVO had too much tire air pressure (54psi) from the tech inspection area off the boat, the mechanics at Poway Mitsu never even QA'd it....which might not be so bad

The dealership I bought at designated a tester Evo and once a few thousand miles were put on, they sell it as a demo or used. Then they choose another to use as a tester. All the other Evos on the lot were left untouched until sold. I could not test my own car until i bought it and was leaving the dealer. so the people who buy the demos know what they are buying and realize they may have hard miles, but they still are fully waranteed.
Lots of new cars have 5, 10, 15, 20 or even more miles on them. It's common. Sometimes dealers have storage lots located a few miles away or they constantly move inventory around, techs check them out to prep them. Its to be expected. I never had a problem and this is my 8th new car. As long as the car does not have scratches or dings, I'm fine. I don't believe dealers will let some stranger beat on the car for a test drive, nor would they want their unsold merchandise damaged or abused.

ma nmy sales man told me waht he did to the car after i bought it, i hope they attempt to void my warranty, I have 3 people who work for them who were all there to witness waht was done to these cars before they were sold...... Tell me I abused the car, right....
I bought the Dealer demo with 2.100 miles on the OD, as a demo used car, (They only had it a month) The manager drove it around/ home ever day, about 25 miles away. Now it has over 7.000 miles on it. I still have no trouble with it. Car runs fine,(fast as hell) No noise from the transmission, nothing wrong with the clutch so far (knock on wood.) It's a sold car. I have however gotten to use to the power, I need more! It's not the mile, it's the usage.
