Caution : Dealership says to watch....
I was speaking to a mechanic at the Mitsubishi where I get my oil changed and he was telling me to make sure I start watching the oil in my car around 2,000 miles on each change, he says that Mitsubishi has told them this, because the engines in the EVO they have notice eat oil really fast......This must be true because I know of two guys here in my town with a yellow and black evo that are both "broke" aka blownup. I asked the mechanice how they did it.....overboosting?? leaning it out??? what...My frined Josh(with black evo) they said his didnt have a drop of oil in it....As for the yellow evo(his was modded)....im am unsure...they said oil too but i think he just leaned it out or something......but I just wanted to make you guys aware of this, and instead of maybe changing the oil as mitsubishi recommends(5,ooo miles)
you might want to change it every 3,000 like I do, and be safe!

I doubt this is from Mods. The Evo is my 3rd Mitsu now and everyone of them has eaten oil. My 95 3000GT SL (bought new) ate oil from day one, 95 3000GT VR-4 (used) ate oil from day one and I am sure the Evo will too. I know people who had Eclipses that checked their oil every month. Maybe I am just use to it now, I always keep a quart of oil in my trunk.
yea but the 3000gt motors are totally different. I'v owned 5 dsms and the only one that ate any oil was my 91 gvr4 with 150k on the motor. And even then it only ate about 1/2 qt every 1,000 miles or so. 4g63's should not be burning oil with 6k miles on em.
4850miles on mine changed oil at 3000...checked oil levels before change and after change frequently..checked it while engine was hot(warm) checked while cold..my evo hasnt lost a drop of oil

There was a recent thread on this subject where the majority of Evos did not use a noticeable amount of oil. Over 11k on mine winding it out every day to and from work... does not use a drop. From the other thread, it seems that those who wore the rings in sooner (more aggressive break in), are not having oil consumption problems. However, I in no way can recommend this...
I had no noticeable oil consumption at all for the first two oil change periods - up to 5400 miles.
From the last change at 5400 up to 7400, I lost about 1/2 quart, and I'll be changing the oil at 8000. I did do a track day during that period, including a lot of WOT driving, along with about 50 autocross runs (spread over several days), which might explain some of the oil loss.
Definitely check the oil regularly and carry a quart of your favorite synthetic oil in the car. In my RX-7, I got in the habit -- it was practically a requirement to carry oil and check the level regularly, since it would burn a quart every 600 - 1000 miles.
