This sounds like it could be a fast break-in vs slow break-in issue???

If you burn/loose oil quickly could you please post if you did a hard or easy break-in as well?

My car does not eat oil, nor have any of our Evo customers repoted any excessive oil consumption.

The evo is my third mitsu since "00" . None of these (Diamonte, Eclipse gt, Evo) cars uses any noticable amount of oil between the 5k changes. If yours does you have a serious problem. Excessive oil consumption should be a warranty issue, rings not seating, valve seal leaks, or gasget problems. It ain't normal guys. Yes I drive fast.

As another RX7 owner you should know that the rotory engine sort of works like a 2 stroke motor, it doesn't burn the oil, it mixes it w/ the gas and its normal. Only thing I religiously check on my FC and FD is the dam coolant... thats what worries me.

if your car is loosing coolant, then you got some problems there.

maybe gaskets or simply a tube is leaking.

not saying that i'm losing coolant.... just worried about overheating the car... rotory+overheating=instant engine "boom"(for a lack of a better word).

Out of every car I have owned. (porsche's, audi's, bmw's, and many japanese cars) the Evo has eaten less oil, in fact in about 3k miles it has not eaten a drop, this is a great engine.

1400 miles, and its still completely full..

I broke it in per manual. Last night I took it to 8,000 rpms (indicated) , my tach must be a bit off as well.

Mine eats more oil than any car I have ever owned, including my '93 zxtt, which barely ate any. I guess I can say it was a moderate break-in, just as with the z.

THANKS MOTOMAN. Im up to 2500 miles again so i checked my oil and not a drop gone. I pushed my car hard to 5k rpms from miles 7-50. I always went WOT on the gas but never took it over 5k rpms so i was putting pressure behind my rings to get them to wear evenly while not taking it over 5k rpms which mitsu advised. THen changed my oils at 500 miles and again at 1k miles. I only went to 7k rpms 2 times when i was at the 450 mile mark and 750 mile mark.

I'm upto 17,500 miles. I notice about 1/2-3/4 of a quart is gone between my 5k oil changes. Cant complain about that..

I did my break in per mitsu's specs.

correct me if I wrong, but won't the oil light come up if you're really really low on oil?
