if u look at ur crash beam, theres a bracket that holds on the "plate" that bolts to the car. They remove that bracket and weld the "plate" back on the beam... So the "plate" is welded directly to the crash beam, giving u the couple of inches u need. I was just recently rear ended HARD by a bigggg truck and that beam saved my cars life
