I was worried about the 220 CCA in the midwest as well.

I ended getting a Optima for free because I had a full size one that went bad and Advanced Auto let me trade it for the Honda size yellow top-> lucky me....

It is taller than I would like, but for free or $130 it is a lot cheaper than a $270 Braille battery with the same 450 CCA.

If you got the $270 + $100 for battery tray laying around get the Carbon Fiber Braille otherwise get the Optima for $130 off Amazon or Advanced Autoparts will have a better local warranty if you have any problems.

Could you throw a couple of engine bay pics up with the Yellow Top installed. I have been considering the Honda sized battery and pics of the install, orientation, etc. would help a lot.

Thanks & happy holidays!

Cheers,
Coach

220 CCA seems to low for the cold for it to be effective.

when putting on a smaller battery dont you face the problem of overcharging the battery and also overworking the alternator...i've heard so many stories of people not lasting very long with mini batteries...i'm running one, but took precautions, so i bought a voltage stabalizer from nrg and a grounding kit, and i can say that i have not had many problems with it...i say many problems cuz i do have an alarm and the cars lasts almost 2 weeks without being driven so i do have to give it the occassional jump start lol...

Because 220CCA is too low, I looked for other alternatives like the Optima and Braille that are 450CCA which is still lower than factory size, but a lot higher than 220CCA so you can run UICPs.

I do not have the Optima in my evo 8 yet, but I do have a pic of in another local guy's evo 8 that I bought his double pumper locally. I will post it soon.

Thank you!

been running a Deka EXT20L battery for for bout half a year now, no problems. I live in SoCal, though - no sub-zero starts...

Also, just used a $10 battery hold down kit from pep boys to mount it; didn't want to blow $100+ on one of those fancy ones.

The Deka I got didn't. You should be able to find some connectors for $10-15. Here's one example:

This looks like a cheap mini battery option also.

What is the CCA of this battery? I bought my Optima so I will not do the research on it, but here is the 3 quick links I found for everyone else.

Did you guys know that the manufacturer of the Deka battery (East Penn) makes the Braille battery, right? Anybody who buys the over-priced Braille battery is just wasting your money.

For about $75 (and $10 for the SAE battery posts) you can get the Deka...together with about $5 for a universal battery hold down kit at Advance Auto, and you got yourself a great weight savings mod. My ETX20L weighs about 15 lbs and is on it's second Winter here in New England with no issues.

17.5 Ah @ 10hr rate

270 CCA

my problem is that i dont want to reroute the battery to the trunk, if that was the case i would have kept the original battery. Now does this battery fit a regular small battery tray? or is the battery bigger??

you dont have to reroute your original size bat to use it with the short route pipes.im using the original size battery with the buschur short route pipes.and whoever says that the mini bat s will give you the same performance as the original bats is full of it..ive worked with sound guys, ands just people that work on the mechanical side and they all told me for the performance too stick work the original size.all im waiting for is a custom mounting bracket for it.i dont get why you would wanna downgrade on something....instead of keeping it equal or better....
