Built Motor?

When I bought my car last year I had no idea of it's previous history, soon later to find out the motor was replaced under warranty 8k miles before i purchased, for some reason i feel like the bottom end was built though, is there any way to see without taking the head off or the motor apart? and my engine has a black coating on it, is that stock ?

the block is painted black from the factory. pull you valve cover off, you can see what cams you have, if there are aftermarket head studs present, etc...

pull of you roil pan and see if the pistons are stock

Why do you think it was built? I would think it would be stock and the po blew the previous motor, got it replaced and then just unloaded the car. Maybe do a compression check?

sorry i did not explain, the invoice from the Mitsubishi dealer that replaced the motor said that the warranty request put in by Devo tuning, and went back to them after they put in the new motor
