Engine Tick driving me nuts
Engine Tick driving me nuts
Car was ok with HKS 272 but started to tick on acceleration. Switched to FP4 cams. Sounds like putting a baseball card in a bike wheel. It slowly subsides after being warm but still a subtle fluter noise. Had the car redyno and everything seems fine. I do have an exhaust leak from the bottom of the turbo to the downpipe but the tick is very distinct. It's not a flutter but a slight light tapping. Replaced stock lifter with jackson lifters, new retainers, springs. Still ticking on acceleration. At idle it sounds fine. Please help.

were the jam lifters bled (they should be soft and you should be able to compress them between your fingertips) on installation? mine were extremely loud on initial start up until they pumped back up with oil

Leaky exhaust gasket. I've heard the same problem on my buddies boosted K-series honda. We checked everything in the valvetrain since we assumed that's were it came from, and lo and behold, it was a leaky exhaust gasket between the testpipe and the headers
I noticed EXACTLY this sound just after picking up my brand new 2010 EVO X, with 50.1 on the odometer. I have it booked into the dealer week after next to check it out. There is no noise at a standstill when I rev it, only when on the road. Off the throttle, no noise. On the throttle, even lightly, I get the card in the spokes noise.
I have the same "tic" and it really doesn't bother me as it isn't that loud. I've replaced/upgraded everything so just chalking it up to a "minor" leak like everyone else is getting

........ the 4B11 has a slight tick at idle too .
