They also tried to put gauges in and...........well you saw the engine bay work so I shouldn't even need to say anything. They aren't hooked up either. (Sigh)

Yea so I started the evo today and it is still spitting when you give it gas. Its weird where it is coming from. Also when you rev it, it smokes. I think its coming right from the turbo housing in the ceter. That's where all the smoke is coming from. Smells like burning oil. I used a telescoping mirror and the oil return line is not leaking

This is another reason to take it to an EVO/DSM specialty shop..Find the right shop who work on these cars because they love to and they will take care of it!

nothing. if it is only that much, it will just burn off and maybe leave some residue. if the leak is fixed, it will be fine. all that burning oil you're smelling may be just excess from previous leaks. best bet is to parts wash the hell out of that thing and let it dry and idle it for a while. if you really feel like diagnosing a hidden oil leak, clean as much oil as you can, then add leak dye and idle or drive it for a bit. then check with uv light. good luck.

In park and giving it some throttle, it spits then smokes.

The turbo has a bit of shaft play. I was able to move the wheel by the bolt. Moving it slightly

Wow, someone took a perfectly good Evo and turned it into what is now the majority of DSM's that are left, beat to hell and everything rigged on the car. It's sad to see what they are all coming down to when they are put in the wrong hands.

Engine should be fine. Was it only the turbo return line that was leaking? Did the engine ever run low on oil?

The turbo should be fine as long as it didn't starve of oil. Some shaft play is normal on all turbos.
