Changed Spark Plugs, Car died from Cold Start

i pulled them out yesterday, i noticed that the gap wasnt .5mm or .0200 inches (gap suggested by tuner). so when i came home, i gapped them with a gapping tool, cleaned to valve cover while i was at it.
that was that. then, the same thing happened this morning. i tried to start it, started for like half a sec, then died. 2nd try worked. after that, it ran fine.
do you guys think it might be the heat range of the plugs? im running the BPR8ES (one step colder to stock replacement). i will be picking these up today, and hopefully itll fix the cold start problem...
