Just purchased an 06 MR. I was doing some testing and got the following info rolling out, without launching at all, 0-60 6.5 and 1/4 of 14.6 at 103 (all on a closed course). Does this seem about right? The mods are very basic, generic fmic, air intake, tbe, uip, supposedly tuned at 20 psi and 300 whp (stock boost control solonoid). I'm sure the stock boost guage is not that accurate, but it is only showing slightly above 1 bar boost. I would think it should be closer to 1.5 bar. Does this seem about right? I'm sure I can get a better 0-60, but don't feal like launching it yet. Thanks.

 

If your only hitting 1 bar, you have a boost leak somewhere.

 

Can I realy in the stock boost guage and assume it's pretty accurate? I've looked around, but I'll double check connections for a boost leak.

 

Yes, but it doesn't read in bar. It's kg/cm2 like it says on the gauge.

On a stock IX, the boost should peak at 1.35-1.4kg/cm2 and taper down to ~1.1kg/cm2. You'll most likely see the boost peak in 4th and 5th gears.

 

Ok, thanks alot. It looks like the diverter valve was changed to a Works valve. I put the stock one back in. I'll see if that makes any difference. I think maybe it's ok and I don't have a boost leak. I did notice it was just over the 1 kg/cm2 in 4th and 5th gear while driving around. I'm sure I should be able to lose a second or so to 60 at least if launched, so the 1/4 time may be ok for a fairly stock vehicle?

 

i would not consider that an almost stock car. an almost stock car to me would be a drop in filter and stock exhaust with a test pipe at the very most. what you have is pretty much an all bolt on car

 

I would hand those keys over to someone with good tuning ability. Bring it to a good shop and have them look at that tune.

Those numbers don't seem anywhere close to right....

Take it to a real track and get a good baseline on it.

Then I would get it retuned by someone who knows what they are doing and go from there. With a 9, it won't take much to get good power on it with a stock turbo.

 

It was supposed to have been tuned by Devo tuning. So far I haven't done anything to it except swap the diverter valve back to stock. I might attach a real boost guage and see where I'm at and go from there. It seems to run well with no real issues. I don't really want to take it in if it doesn't need anything so I'm trying to get some opinions. I'll see if swapping the diverter valve back to stock does anything for the boost.

 

What it sounds like is a boost limiter, however, you are saying you are not launching it.
What the boost limiter does is..since your 2006 Evo has a 2 step, in order to launch you must tap the gas pedal a couple times to build the rpms as compared to just stepping on the gas pedal and pinning it to the 2 step limiter. The car does that as a safety precaution for itself.

I did this when I first bought the car and did not know that and ran a 14.6 1/4 mile, then I realized the rpms must be built up and then I was right on the money for stock 1/4 mile times.

If you really are not launching the start then it most likely is a boost leak.

 

^^If what I just stated above is not the issue then you should really get it to a tuner before pushing it. You are in IN so I may suggest AMS in IL. Make a day trip and get it tuned with a manual boost controller. Before they tune it they should do a boost leak test. You really should get it personally tuned because the previous seller could have parted out some parts or not have a proper tune for the modifications. So to be on the safe side, get it tuned yourself.

 

The stock gauge is pretty accurate compared to the MAP sensor.

I'd suggest getting a Tactrix cable, downloading EvoScan, and logging the car.

The best thing you can do is to take the car to an Evo-specific shop and have them sort it out. It will save you time, money, and perhaps even your motor. Good luck.

 

You can do a boost leak test yourself to see if you have any leaks.
