Help!!!! Resale value estimation?

ok heres the deal, yeah im 16, and im lucky, i know. but ok, im about to get a car, i really really really want an evo, and my second choice in an e36 m3. Now my parents dont think that the evo will have a good resale value, based on something they saw on the news, that also stated that bmw's have the best resale value, so i would like to know what everyone thinks the resale will be like on the evo... or maybe some tips on convincing them.

please, im not looking for **** like "oh youre too young to be driving this car" or "you dont deserve it" or anything of the matter, i just want some help from some fellow evo lovers. thank you so much in advance

BMWs have the worst resale value. They depreciate in value faster than a honda!!

i hate to be the one to say it but your parents are right. BMW are known for keeping their value while sports car such as the EVO tend to drop in value. just to help you see it better, do a search for used BMW E36 m3 and see their prices. then, look for a few used EVO (either on this board or any other place) and you will be able to see what i mean.

hope this helps and good luck

also, before anyone jumps on me and start cursing me, i am talking as a guy who owned 3 BMW and now owns an EVO. true, there are some BMW that do lose value but the 1 you are talking about is still very strong as far as value. also don't forget that you lose about 2-4k the minute you leave the dealer's parking lot.

yeah i know the bmw will keep their resale value better, but maybe if there was proof that the evo will hold its resale value decently well.....

i just need to convince them somehow

it will be a very had sell for you due to the fact that the car is still pretty new. all i know is that people are selling it here for about 23k-26k.

The Evo is All wheel drive which is safer than a 2wd system. A kid driving a BMW looks like he is driving his parents BMW. A kid driving an Evo is driving his evo or the evo the parents bought for him which is seperate from mom or dads car.

Main selling point for me is the following:

AWD and the rugged nature of the EVO.

The Evo gets almost 30 mpg.

4 doors is very usefull because my last car was 2 doors.

The EVO is also a rally proven formula 4 championships in a row.

The Evo will because of its long overdue arrival to the US, kind of like the civic SI did in 99 for Honda. Man, your 16 get the Evo more fun for your time. The BMW never came across into my options since they are made in my hometown and seem to be everywhere, but yes I think it will keep its value, if not, pay it off and keep it for a weekend racer.good luck with the Evo, now thats SWEET 16.

yeah ive said the awd thing and the 4 door thing and rally thing....

maybe i havent said them enough recently though... and they dont know what rally is, and around here a kid driving a bmw is normal, also, buying a used one wouldnt be good, because i HIGHLY doubt that you will be able to find one that isnt abused or raced or what not, so they will all be in not-so-great condition

another factor is that they would be more considering leasing an evo, with its near 30k price tag, as opposed to buying the m3 full out, which they could afford

Drill info on the evo into there heads day and night untill they get tired and give it a chance. Also take them for a test drive but make sure they dont see all the power it has, that'll scare them. Tell them its the best handling car in the us, and it has the best 60 to 0mph time.
