Concern with getting a Tune

I scheduled a tune with Buschur for this coming Monday and I had a few concerns... I'm a bit new to the forums here, figured I'd try my luck.

My concerns are the following...

1) Timing belt (Stock Original)
2) Clutch (Stock Original)
3) 6 speed Trans with these mods?

I have an 06 evo 9 MR I bought with 18,000 Miles, I've had it for almost 2 years and now have 40,300 miles on it. Most the Mileage I've added has been Highway to and from work and to florida 1 time... that was a terrible mistake w/o cruise control. Shoulda take the WRX on that one... I've had the oil changed at least 500 miles before the mark each time. Rear Diff fluids were just changed. (1 Metal Shaving was found on the drain plug) Xfercase and Trans fluids all changed... Everything looked clean. I used all OEM fluids and they were damn expensive

Driving Habits & Where it's been

I rarely dig into the throttle because it's, what I consider 'untuned.' I occasionally boost it... No more than 14-18psi just to get that short burst of fun When I installed the MBC, the boost was set so high that the gauge actually read higher than 1.5bar and was tapping the bottom of the gauge... I adjusted this and the boost will generally hit 1.3-1.4 through the first 3 gears then starts hitting boost cut in 4th/5th/6th IFi give it more than 70% throttle. I took it to the track the first week I got it just to try it out (stock)... didn't do any better than a 2.2 60' with a trap of 14.0 @ 105mph. I baby it and really don't consider it abused. However, I don't know what the first 18000 miles were like. It was 100% stock, owned by a woman who traded it for a mazda 3 because she got it going through a divorce. (you can see the heel marks from her shoes on the trim in some spots. I had been looking for an evo for over 2 years and this was the first one that was absolutely bone stock in mint condition not owned by a 16year old child.

The following are the mods I currently have on my evo.

Cobb Stage 2 flash (dissappointed with this, removing for Buschur Flash)
Buschur MBC
Buschur Downpipe (heatwrapped it myself b/c it was too close to xfercase)
Buschur Catless Testpipe
HKS High Power Exhaust
Buschur FMIC (Deluxe Core, I believe it came with LICP)
HKS 272 Intake Cam
HKS 272 Exhaust Cam
Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump

Thanks and sorry for the long post :x

Yours telling me you have all those mods and your car hasnt been tuned aside from the Cobb off the shelf map? No offense however I dont see the car running right or it even being safe. I would definitely recommend getting your car tuned. It will run so much better in so many different ways.

The timing belt needs to be changed at 60000 miles so you dont need to worry about that yet. As far as the clutch and transmission is concerned, if you dont abuse your car and properly maintain it, then you have nothing to worry about. Good luck

1) Timing belt is good for 60k. With those HP levels you have nothing to worry about. Just do the 60k maintenancewhen the time comes.
2) Clutch.... that is tricky. With your new hp levels after the tune, you should be around 320-340whp. Stock clutch SHOULD hold up fine, but its up to the driver. The more you launch the quicker it wears out. I'm at 380whp/360tq with 50k miles and my stock clutch is just fine.
3) I have a 5spd, so can't comment too much on this question, but from what I read, with your hp levels you will be just fine. Maybe someone else can comment on this a bit more.

Your mods are pretty solid. The cams are VERY mild and not too much gains are seen on evo IX. What intake system are you running? You might want upgrade that if you are running the stocker.

My stock 6 held up to around 450/420 on a Mustang Dyno like BR's. The clutch, you will be pushing it, but should be okay as long as your not abusing it too much. It will need to be changed sooner rather than later though... Don't worry about the timing belt, you will be okay with that until 60k...

No offense taken... I understand the risk of not running on a good tune. In all honesty... the only downside I've really experienced was running super rich. Other than that the daily drive seems fine. (still getting 21 mpg) I've only recently added the pump and cams. It really sucks that the closest tuner is over 4 hours from me :/

I'm running the stock intake system, currently. I was actually thinking about changing that out next.

I heard the 272's were pretty descent with a tune? I was reading in a magazine when they tested the HKS cams they added 10-15hp over stock levels with nothing else on the car on the first dyno pull. But I've heard you can net an extra 30-40hp? I thought the 280's would be too big and I didn't want to get into changing the valve/springs.

1 other thing... should I get a tune for a 2 step ? :X

You will probably want to upgrade the intake system. It'll give you more power than the stocker.

They can do the 2 step if you want it.

The magazines are good and all but you can get more Evo information on this site that anywhere else.

My clutch went out on the dyno at about 340whp, but others have had much more success.

You're in good hands at BR.

Of course you are disappointed with the Cobb AP Stg 2 map..you have all these mods that the AP does not support.

I have the same mods minus cams and my oem original clutch is holding up after 50k miles. I do not know how much longer it has in it though, but I drive it easy usually, but will be putting in an Exedy Twin by end of summer.

6 Speed will hold up fine for those mods, unless you are tracking it every weekend or something in which case it would not matter what tranny was in it because that abuse would need a built tranny.

Just as long as all maintenance is done up to whatever mileage you are at you will be fine.

Don't forget to put some spark plugs in there BEFORE the tune.

Yes, also get an intake!

HKS cams will add some good power however for Evo 8's, Kelford 272s show the best overall power and wideband gains.

Are you planning on doing anything with the car? Like auto-x or drag? If your just gonna DD and baby it I would have just left it stock.

I'll be dragging it every now and then. Can't afford autocrossing it

Ya forgot I changed the plugs when I did the tranny fluids xD. Even when I had the mods that were compatable with stage 2 cobb... it just didn't seem like it was really worth it... That and there isn't a cobb tuner anywhere near here anymore.

clutch is fairly easy to swap and with your mods you could prob go with a twin disk or maybe even a heavy duty. definitely needs a tune tho

No need to swap the clutch until the stocker blows.
