DIY JDM Film Options

Well I finally grew the ***** do open up a set of EVO 8 lights I picked up on Craigslist so since they were an extra set, I figure whats the worst that could happen...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...jdm-tails.html

I decided to use this paint instead of film and see how it turns out. These are in progress and I am going out of town for a couple of days so I wont finish them til I come back. I think they look good so far.

I used the dremel tool method that member Teamvalor posted a while back. He PMed me and figured I use paint instead of film... so far they look pretty close to the real JDMs.

I did overlays for a period of time. I went to a local sign shop and had them order the amber film. If you can lay it correctly you can't tell.

Or you can buy the Ebay one that looks exactly like the JDM MR(Black housing with Amber turn signals) for like $225 shipped.

I like the Yellow tape. It looks more like the JDM color IMO.

Evo Dave is busy guy most of the time I can only get in contact with him is at auto-x. But his work is great and well worth the wait in my mind

On the other hand the tape looks interesting. I'll think about trying it and let ya know how it goes.

i bought overlays for mine a while ago and when they came they looked more like the orange ones, which look a little too bright until you peel it off the white backing

I found this paint from another thread that Red Evo8 posted a while back. He used this clear paint to do the small side markers like the JDM ones. I picked up an extra set of Chrome Evo 8 Tail over this week and I am gonna open them up and paint the chrome section flat black. Instead of using Vynil, I will use this paint to do the side markers on the tails instead and see how it goes. Since this paint worked on the side markers I figure it should work on the turn signal section of the tails also... I will see once I open up the tail lights if the paint is going to work.

Yes he does look like a busy guy, I went through his sites. I did get a reply back from him but I decided to give this a shot myself. I just picked up an extra set of lights. The hardest part is pulling the lens apart but everything else seems pretty easy.

Not doing overlays, I decided to use the paint I described above to paint the lens itself but from the inside.

Putting the lights back together does not seem like a big deal, plenty of silicon will take care of any leakage issues. Plenty of people have done them themselves withtout any leak or condensation issues. I will post plenty of pics as I document my progress.

I too have pmed red evo8 about another set of vinyl cutouts. I have never gotten a return pm either.

If you do it, go for the darker amber vinyl you posted. Trust me, its gonna look better with the darker orange. If you go through with it, post some pics. I have been looking forever for some amber vinyl to do me oem 8 tails on me newest evo.
