So far I've put 40k miles on it, with zero lockout issues, and no other issues that I can think of.

there's nothing wrong with ACT clutches.
Comparing Exedy single plates to twin plates is like apples to oranges. I agree, Exedy single plate clutches have their issues also, but I have read and witnessed more issues with ACT clutches than any other disks on the market. Just go to the search button on EvoM alone and search ACT and lockout, you will get at least 5 threads posted about it in 10 seconds... The HDSS is a good disk, and should be ok for the OP's power goals as of right now, but when he puts the FP Red on there and starts cranking up the boost you are going to be pushing it if he adds supporting bolt ons and such. I put a twin disk in my car when my stock clutch started going out ~35k miles. I daily drove that Twin HD every day and it was in the car until the 56k it had on it when I had the motor rebuilt. I saw the friction material myself and I literally had ~3/4 left on the disk. I had the plates rebuilt just in case but it was not necessary. This was with no launches and very few auto cross events, but trust me, on the street I get on the car, HARD. OP, it is up to you which route you choose, but I would avoid ACT like the plague. I have had 3 friends around here with lockout issues, hell I even had an ACT in my 98 prelude that was giving me issues. I would save up the extra money and get the twin, plenty of clutch to hold what that Red will put out, 0 issues with a fork stop, and it is probably the most proven clutch for the Evo platform.

I guess I'll add my 2 cents:

My friend had the exedy twin disc with lightweight flywheel and hated it. Heck everytime I drove it I hated it. LOL. Its not easy to drive in stop and go traffic. Then again I live in Toronto, which is a parking lot from 8am to 12pm and 4pm to 8pm. Anyways it lasted him 15000km (~10k miles) and he replaced it with a XTSS from ACT. He had a ACT on his civic way back in the day and loved it since then. Clutch didn't feel much heavier than stock and it engaged waaayyy smoother and easier. It wasn't a biatch to drive everyday.

I have a HDSS in my car right now and its really good IMO. Very easy to engage, but it just grabs harder than stock. You can get used to it very quickly. I can stop and go this clutch way easier.

ACT rates the clutch to hold ~500lb/ft which is of course not accurate because its on a machine dyno rig. But in real life I'm sure it can hold 400whp no problem.

One other thing. ACT and exedy have different philosphies on building clutches. ACT believes in having a heavier pressure plate put more clamping force on the disk. Exedy believes in using more aggressive friction material to hold the load. Pick whichever path you want from that.

Ok maybe that turned out to be more than just 2 cents.

hmmm that being said, has anyone ever tried an act pressure plate on an exedy clutch?
