Thinking out side the box

This may be stupid idea, but i dont know.

Most people know that there is coolent routed to the TB, and some people block it off that dont have to worry about cold start up ect.

For starters i have 03 evo 8 with the IC sprayer (that i dont use)
what if i put a diffrent water pump in the the IC sprayer tank and routed lines to and from the TB then ran ice water at the track?

Would that help cool down intake temps and/or would it hurt the car from the TB being really cold and the intake being hot?

just some food for thought.

It will work just fine. Keep an eye out for AFR though... beginning of the run will be cooler than later on which could and will affect AFRs.

Hope that helps. Good thinking.

ive never heard of anyone blocking it off, i doubt it would help much because of how hot it is on the intake manifold. im not sure how you would be able to keep it from recirculating into the radiator and might be a big waste of time by the time unless you were able to keep it running constantly and in a closed loop back to the i/c sprayer tank. not sure how long the water would stay cold either.

Manifold spacer gasket will solve that. They really do drastically decrease the temp of the IM due to spacing it from the head.

I know that the coolant on some older vehicles actually has a bearing on how the ISVC actually works ... there is a waxy piece in the assembly that softens when the temps rise and the way the ISCV functions changes based on this.

I'd think that the Evo's ISCV is 100% electronically controlled, but it would be best to verify this before sending cold water through a passage which may disrupt or even damage the ISCV itself.

Otherwise, in theory, I see where you are going and i seems like it would technically work, but I'm not sure how much effect it would really have on temps. Given the temps of the manifold, the charge air itself and the amount of time the water and the air would even be exposed to the TB, I can't see there being much realized effect at all.

The temp of the water is gonna change once everything starts getting heat soaked. A thermal spacer is probably a better bet.

In my opinion the length of the throttle body being relatively short means the amount of actual cooling done to the air passing through it would be small. The temperature of the throttle body, no matter how hot or cold it is, is not going to have much effect on the air passing through it. It is not like an intercooler which has many, many fins and small passages for the air to travel through, and around, which allows heat transfer. Intercooler=large area; Throttle Body=small area.

Let's reroute the AC lines through the TB.

something like that has been done before....on my other car (lightning) the supercharger sits ontop of a "water cooled" IC. i got a bigger tank (from JLP) that fills with ice during track days to cool down the temp and holds more fluid. now im not saying its the same, i know its like compairing apples and oranges. but in theory your idea should work... now just make it happen
