balance shaft belt snapped, wont start,
I was about to say, the bs belt can snap all it wants. You dont even need to run it really, if the car is balanced well enough you can do without running it and letting everything else go, i did this with my old 95 tsi back in like 2005 and it ran fine, some cars run like **** without it tho. (poly mount, crappy balanced motor, etc)
car should start with it off.. like someone else said, it probably mangled the crankshaft angle sensor that straddles the trigger plate and reads the grooves in it as it turns with the crank.
If your luck is really bad, it could have made the timing belt skip when it snapped as well, and you might be way off timing.
without doin the bs eliminator you have 1 shaft spinning while the other isnt, but on my old dsm it didnt seem to care to much lol. no extra vibrations at any rpm level.
on a evo i would just get it eliminated and be done with it..... you can pull them out if you drop the motor low enough under the car to get the shafts out.

You have to remove the front case cover to drive out the old bearings for the balance shaft elimination kit. It takes a bit more than just a basic set of tools to do it but it can be done in your garage if you have the right tools. That being said I almost always recommend removing the balance shafts.

ok so I replaced the bS belt, put the timing belt back on and the car still wont start,I get teh oil pressure light when they key is too the on position, but it goes off when cranking.
there is no CAS on the car, I can see the bolt holes for it but theres nothing there or no evidence of ever being there, maybe evo 1's never had one?
Im in dire need of help!!!, I need this car to be driving asap!!!

make sure your timings correct. if its right then make sure its getting spark and fuel and go from there.
yea as far as I can tell timing is correct(its a tad different than in that diagram) but that is also the one I used when I replaced teh t belt and BS belt abou 40k ago. So it is probably correct.
I guess I will check if there is spark tomorrow, the fuel pump is priming so im assuming its getting fuel, but Ill take the rail off to double check I guess.
