an alarm will eat a bit...but if you drive your car regularly, it shouldn't really affect it.

The alarm will eat it a bit. I have a small battery and alarm, and during the winter months my battery would pretty much drain if I left it more than 1 day without any trickle charge. Summer months I could leave it several days before there would be an issue. In my case I just connect my car to a battery tender when I am not using it to keep that battery nice and topped off. If you have an outlet near the vehicle this is a good way to do it, and its fairly inexpensive even the Jr model will keep it topped off without issues. Thats ~25 bucks on ebay, and I am sure other locations as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DELTR...ehicleQ5fParts

It still amazes me as to why people run these dinky batteries.

Miata battery is the way to go.

Yes you do. I run a short route UICP and there was no way to would deal with a mini in Chicago winters.

So I did this (cables are a bit hidden now)

thanks for all the advice. i really like the mini battery fill up in the engine bay instead of a missing empty spot (which look weird to me). but my question is answered, yes an alarm does eat up the mini battery and thats all i needed to know. once again i did appreciate the suggestions.
