Salvage Title Question
Salvage Title Question
There is a 2005 evo for sale. it has 58k miles on it. It has a salvaged title. I can tell the front pass door and fender was replaced. Its all stock. Its in really good condition besides the salvage title part. They are asking $14,995 for it. To me thats high. What is a good price for the car. I plan on getting a car fax but need a account. If possible could someone hook me up, please? Let me know on a price I should offer, thanks alot.

It is worth whatever someone will pay for it really... once a vehicle is branded salvaged all hell breaks lose...
If you buy it, just make sure of a few things
1) you understand when you try to re sell it (if you ever do) it will be a hassle
2)your bank may or may not loan on a salvaged title, and if they do it may be for a smaller loan amount, or higher APR
3)your insurance may not consider the vehicle worth as much as a non salvaged title, thus if it gets totaled you may be in trouble
4) you never really know the extent of the damage, it may never drive straight... a smashed vehicle is just never the same.
*edit, carfax changed now so you either buy 1 VIN check or 5, I just used my last one for someone else on the forums last week, sorry

If this is the one listed on Craigslist in SoCal don't buy it. That guy flips dozens of Salvage title cars a month and does the absolute bare minimum in terms of repair to get them presentable for sale.
salvage title vehicles are worth about half of what a clear title vehicle is worth, give or take a couple grand. I'm sure there are much more extensive repairs behind the door and fender that may not be disclosed to you.
salvage vehicles typically have frame damage (replaced quarter panels, rewelded core supports, damaged aprons, clamp marks from frame straightening machines ect...). In the short term it may cause a vehicle to be unsafe in a crash or not drive properly, long term you can have major corrosion issues.

All these guys are pretty much right. That price is way too high and you have no idea how extensive the damage is. Is just picked my Evo up for 13,500 not too long ago. You can find a clean titled Evo for the same price. Just have patience and it will pay off. I would say pass on this one though.

Anyway yeah this is the same guy in San Diego I'm talking about. He buys a lot of desirable Rice Rockets (SRT-4's, S2000's, Evo's, STi's) from IAAI, CoPart and fixes to re sell them. He specifically chases Evo's because they are ridiculously easy to sell here in SoCal.
For this particular car I wouldn't pay more than 12.5K.
some of this info is lol
not every car with a salvage title is junk, it all depends on what type of accident it was involved in
damaged frame? corrosion? not drive straight? what kind of accident you talking about? roll overs?...
i bought my evo with a salvaged title and it drives straight as an arrow, all the fenders/bumpers/doors align just right and everything works fine. Find what you're interested in with a reasonable price you can work with, drive it, get it checked out at a GOOD reputable shop and take it from there.

ps; that price is a little high for a salvage and it being STOCK, i'd prob pass on this one

I'm gonna try and get a car fax on the car. If its some crazy repair I will stay clear of it. I don't plan on re-selling it, but it sucks that you never know what ur getting into with a salvage. A bone stock evo with 58k miles is hard to find. If the frame and that good stuff isn't bad I will try to get it for 8 or 9k.
