steering column broken???

I recently moved and hauled my car with me. When I got out, I noticed my steering column is broken and moves around a lot. I cant get it to stay in one place. I looked at it some more, and found that the place where it bolts up into the car cant be done up again, because the column is sitting too far in (towards the fireall, needs to go towards the drivers seat more.)

How can I fix this???

Thanks

Josh

i have the same issue, it wiggles from left to right, any help would be great. tried tightening up the 12mm bolts that seem to keep it in place, but nothing. not sure how this loosened up.

yeah no thanks, there is a bracket that looks like it's suppose to prevent the column from shimming to each side, this brackets nuts are torqued down, and it still has play, not sure what's going on.

I ordered a new column from a member on here. The two shims that you and I are talking about seem to be punched onto the steering column so they dont go anywhere. I couldnt move them easily at all.

I'm going to try and remove just that part and see how it does.

I had the same issue with mine. But the little silver square brackets actually broke and caused the wheel to fall. Needed to be replaced. Had to find them off a forum member parting out there car. The dealer does not sell these directly.

That happens when the car has been in an impact. The tabs break and the column drops to be able to exit the vehicle after a crash. I don't know how to fix it. If it happened, you should also check the mounts in the engine bay on the steering rack, which may also be broken.
