Eight-thousand is not unreasonable. A lot of people forget all the extras that need to be replaced when a new motor goes in as Emery pointed out. Listen to this guy, he knows his stuff. If you have any doubts or questions call up AMS, Buschur, or STM and they will be more than willing to help you out.

Yeah at first your like it doesn't cost that much, but after you break it down it's not much less.

I'd look around other close reputable shops, you can prob get it for 1k-1500 less. I wouldn't buy a used motor either you never know the condition.

What exactly did you notice when this happened? Was the only thing you noticed excessive white smoke? Did the car shut off, any clunking or banging noises, etc? If all that happened was a bunch of white smoke out the exhaust, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions. I would look into this a little more before buying a brand new engine if it was me.

It truely is a waste of money, especially for drag racers. I can get a stroked out 302 stang (N/A or power adder) for about half of the price of my car and twice as fast. Kind of depressing.

back to topic- It is a hell of a lot cheaper if you build an evo before it explodes, 4500 is what i was quoted, but I could see it costing 7k ish

Majestic Motorsports is who quoted you this price isn't it? By the way I don't recall the word "extreme" being in their name.

Labor on removing engine, and putting it back + various other random necessary labor = $1500-$2000, YMMV. Hell why not...timing belt 60k bits = $$$. Plus all those things STM listed...$3000-4000 for the shortblock internals upgrades. Again YMMV, H-Beams, I-Beams, what have you.

Its gonna be at least $7k. At most $9k. Huh, car needs to be tuned? whats that? Thats another $200-400. Don't forget shipping charges, engine wont walk over to shop aka Buschur, AMS, what have you...and then walk back. Wait at least 2months before you see car again.
This man is a realist.

Stay far away from them!!!! Majestic is horrible and treated me and my car like ****! They also love to leave customers cars two feet from the road outside and tons of there customers car have been broken into. They also took 2 months to do my clutch and used royal purple tranny fluid like morons. Trust me stay away!

labor is the most expensive part not the motor, unless you need a extensive amount of things replaced lol

+1, why is everyone quoting short blocks and rebuilt engines that are punched out, why would you spend 8k to fix an engine, just buy a used one

did the OP say his engine was already upgraded internally, if so I missed that,

if the engine was stock internally, just buy a stock used engine again for less than 3 grand. Put it in yourself if you can, if not it's still not going to be over $4500.

sounds like your engine may not be dead anyways, if the same shop that quoted you 8 grand was the one that said its done, I would get a second assesment about what is wrong.

are you saying 8k is cheap to fix a stock engine back to stock working order? or 8k is cheap for a larger displacement engine?
