I was rear ended by an S-10 in December of '09. I didn't tell the insurance company anything about the parts that I wanted to use. I worked directly with the body shop. The guy at the body shop let me pay for the parts that I wanted on the car, and then wrote me a check at the end of the deal for the money that I had in parts.

Side note: Body shop would not install the bumper without a crash beam, but that was not a big deal as I wanted a crash beam there anyway.

buying a JDM rear not insurance fraud.
I didn't say getting a JDM bumper was insurance fraud. I was saying that to the guy who suggested that the OP beat up his own bumper to make it look more damaged. It's one thing if you do it, but it's another thing if you leave a trail behind you, like a whole thread on the internet talking about it.

hope you dont report this to your own insurance since its without a question zero fault. even a no-fault incident is a taint on your record unfortunately. did you get a police report? did her insurance already state they will pay for it 100%?

assuming you want the JDM rear, then simply reject their request to go through their shop and ask them to cut you a check.

also dont even worry about if you have rear bumper support or not. regardless accident is an accident. rear bumper would barely reduce the damage at most, wouldnt change the fact the lady crashed into YOU.
