1989 R32 GTR or 2006 EVO IX?
I lived in Okinawa a few years and like someone posted earlier the rust is an issue there.
Cars there are relatively cheap and you will be surprised how much people sell their cars for cheap, especially during PCS season. if I was in your shoes and I was going back to Okinawa I would store my evo for the three years(I don’t trust anyone driving any of my cars, not even my parents) and buy a GTR from mainland and have it shipped to Okinawa. properly maintain it to minimize the rust but believe me it will happen, the salt in the air is no joke. or you could wait and buy the car a year out from leaving and do all the leg work when you get it that way it stays away from the island.

Dont buy an 89. i know it works out to the year of 2014. but they have so many issues. we see them all the time here in canada (law is 15 years or older so we can import up to 95) people bring a GTR back and one or both turbos have no seals left, needs 6 coils. and then the 91 and older models had oil pump issues and crank walked. 92 would be the year to get IF getting a gtr. two of my buddies have R33's and they work awesome, another one has a 90 GTR and he hated it untill he put in a newer RB26.
Sucks about the 25 year rule tho. half the tuner scene around here is RHD JDM vehicles. Silvias, Celica GT-4s, Pulsars, and Skylines are fairly common now. I live in a town of 30,000 people and theres 3 silvias, 5 GT-4's, about 8 Skylines, and 2 Pulsars.
Long story short. dont buy a Nissan

I live in Okinawa and I will be leaving in Febuary, I can give you a kick *** deal on my EVO 5 I have here. On a side note everyone know's the 89 GTR's will be legal in 2014 so people have been jacking the prices up on 89's because they know they are decried cars to Americans. I see less and less 89's for sale everyday. When I first got to Okinawa they were everywhere not anymore. But I do have a guy that can swap your vins and paperwork if you buy a 92 he will put 89 vins and paperwork with the car.
I'd say forget the Skyline. We've had them here (Montreal Quebec"Canada") Since like 04'. The whole JDM explosion hit, and ppl were buying up Skylines left right and center. Now you dont see them on the road as much, because they were/ are pure junkers. I used to love the R32. But only Scrap cars make it over the pond, and then you end up with $15,000 + paper weight with a blown motor.

After doing some soul searching and crying, I believe I will be selling my EVO IX prior to going to Okinawa in January of next year. I have decided this because my EVO will be placed in storage for the next 3 years, AND a magical thing happens in 2014, for those of you who do not know here is a piece of info on importing JDM vehicles:
"If the car is 25+ years old, the federal laws seem to have been recently rewritten to allow import without any EPA or DOT requirements, which would negate any possible reason to use a registered importer, or any company for any purpose other than to obtain the vehicle or make sure it is as described and in a condition you want it to be in. Check the federal law and consult US Customs. Then check with your state laws to see what is required to register it, or if there is anything to keep you from registering it."
So guess how old a 1989 GTR R32 will be in 2014? That's right math majors 25 years old! So despite my deep love for my EVO I do believe I will be selling it (2006 EVO IX, SSL, Silver, 40000 miles) in order to purchase a R32 when I get to Okinawa next year.
What do you guys think? Get the Skyline, or keep the EVO?
