1989 R32 GTR or 2006 EVO IX?
Bumping a SUPER OLD thread! im going to be on okinawa in a few months and deff planning on keeping my 76'280z turbo my ix and TRYING to find a nice r-32 if its a lil rust, i'll get it fixed, its worth it
Good luck. The prices have skyrocketed. Especially on the Island. Are you NDI/Sheet metal?
no, im avionics, going to work on the talons, im deff going to try and either get one imported or buy one when i get there, okinawabookoo had two for under 10k but they sold quick! i will deal with an 89 or a 90.. as long as the price isn't unreasonable i think i'll buy one for sure. bc it will be a SUPER rare car here in the states, even when they are legal
Most of the older cars in Oki are going to have rust. The idea would be to find something thats old enough to be worth keeping.
Most americans over there are looking for gt-r's and the sales people know it so do your shopping and dont get ripped off. If you are going to exploit the import exemption then make sure the car you get gets coated its a good investment no only there but when you get it here you dont put your foot through the floorboards.
Keep your evo if its paid off and get this as a 'war story' trophy.

Getting reliable support for an Evo is hard enough in some parts of the US; parts and service for a rare and complicated beast like a GT-R could be unobtanium
if the AWS decides to seize up somewhere outside of Dog Lick,
"Boy, you know you got the steerin' wheel on the wrong sideayer car, boy?"
Even routine maintenance parts will have to be shipped in, if you can find anyone who can be trusted to work on it. Other posters have mentioned rust. Finding replacement body panels in the US will be a spiritual experience, albeit more expensive than most spiritual experiences not involving some cult.
