never messed with this?
As already said apparently it doesn't do much of anything... if they did they would have continued it in later models which they didn't. Dual Map switching is probably the single best use for it.
Function of the sprayer is dependent on what kind of driving you do. For some it is useless, for others it has a use.

^ more info in this post but still I look at it like this... Its a freaking nozzle spraying water on your IC... if there were noticable gains from this then some of the most powerful evos would be using this would they not?
I mean it would make sense for everyone to add this to their car if it truly made a difference. If there were someone who would dyno and test this for illustrative purposes then you may see a difference but the "butt dyno" I highly doubt that you can tell.
If you had a true FMIC sprayer that was pushing no2 out and chilling the IC then you would notice the difference but then the tune factor comes into play...
Just my .02, sorry to jack the thread a little.
To answer the OP, leave it in auto if anything, since its being controlled by the ECU it shold know best when it is needed

OP, leaving it in AUTO mode won't do anything, it pretty much comes dissabled from the factory. It works based on coolant temp and I think vehicle speed also. In order to make the most out of the system, have a tuner enable it to come on at lower temps and lower speeds also, that way it will serve a purpose, a good one: to cool the intercooler a bit more. You can even put a 50/50 mix of alcohol and distiled water, so it helps cool even better.
