Fireball, i think what he means by the '04 having a higer resale value is simply the fact that the year its more recent, and that all other things being equal, the newer model of a car is generally of higher resale value than an older model.

Of course, this is always subject to the possibility that the first year EVO may carry some addt'l value simply because it is the first year.

"The resale value on the Evo is going to suck irregardless of whether its an 04 or 03. The vehicles are selling for 23K wholesale already. Do the math. It's not an investment, don't make it one."

Finally, someone with some common sense.

Cars may not be an investment, this is true... but you still want it to be worth as much as possible at the end. So, if something like waiting a month for the new year model to come out will make a difference then someone might be willing to do that. (Not me, obviously, as I just bought mine 10 days ago or so )

Again, I agree with you that cars are not an investment.

The JDM spec weighs in roughly the same as a WRX and has around 275hp. If the USDM is anywhere near those figures it'll not be much slower than an Evo.

This time last year I was tossing up whether to go for the Evo or STi, but once I saw the first shots of the Legacy I was sold. A nicely balanced mix of performance, styling and comfort IMHO...

1) The resale of the Evo isn't going to get any better than it is with the '04 models. If anything, I'd think that the resale value of the car will be higher for the '03's since it was the first year in the US. Offers some Unique-ness to the car.

2) To my knowledge, Thunder Grey won't be an option on the US Evo's.

Now, with that being said...Can you honestly tell me that if you were driving down the road in your new 2004 Legacy and you saw an Evo go screaming by you, you wouldn't be kicking your self in the *** thinking, "Why oh Why didn't I get an Evo?"
Man the resale value between an '03 and '04 Evo will only be different by one year's depreciatrion, just like any other two consecutive model years of a car. And it's a Mitsu so no matter how much an enthusiast might like it, resale will be crap from 95% of the buyers out there who would look at it. If you plan on selling it at a high price expect it to take a long time to sell.

As for having the new 2.5T Legacy B5 or whatever their high performance turbo model will be called when they arrive here next year, I doubt he'd be kicking himself because if he bought that it means he has different needs than someone who buys an Evo or WRX/STi.

Also being the turbo performance sporty model of the Legacy it will likely have plenty of mods in due time and it's likely the only time you'll truly go FLYING by one is if the driver isn't racing and you're just doing a ricer fly-by as they're called.

Hope that clears things up.

I was thinking about one of those as a daily driver in a few years time... when the EVO warranty runs out (wait... that could be tomorrow DOH!), if it runs its full course. Then it can truly be modded without having to worry if I will get to work on Monday because I am installing a bigger turbo on Sunday, etc. That would be nice

I think the legacy is pretty ugly if you ask me. Evo and STI beat it hand down. Dude, dont buy it unless you have kids or something or if you're 35 or above. If you are still young and handsome, go for the EVO or the STI. I have EVO and because of that, I wanted an STI. hahaha, I dunno why, but I'm starting to like the STI more and more everyday. I like it bc it has that aggressive looks once fitted with a nice body kits. Plus that 2.5L boxer engine. But nonetheless, I love my EVO and no way in hell will I take the legacy over the evo. When something is half-***, it is never a good thing. If you want looks and comfort, go for the new TL or the G35. If you want performance, heheeh, EVO first choice and STI second choice. I hope this will help. Peace....

I think the new Legacy is going to be very successful. Conservatively rated at 250hp (The Forester XT is rated at 210 hp/235ft-lb but is more like 240hp/265ft-lb) mated to a 6MT and all at about 3100 lbs (it went on a significant diet).

I do agree, though, that this car is not really going to be an EVO or STi competitor; but more aimed at the European sport sedans (330i, A4, etc) which it will absolutely trounce at a huge $$ savings. The new Legacy's interior is pretty slick, too.
