Get the red. People act like the turbo hits full boost at 5000rpm or something. Its not a huge difference from the stock turbo

I also say go with the red first... and that's not just because I'm doing the same thing.

Being used to V8's and turbo diesels I already think the stock IX turbo is a bit laggy. I'd go with cams. However, check the cam test thread to see the difference between all of them:

Do you self tune? If so Id get the cams first and then Red. If you dont and want to avoid paying twice for tunes, Id get both and wait til you can afford a tune. I kinda did that, but I upgraded the tranny and T case and while it was down, had the Red and cams installed. Should be ready next week. I would have liked to see the difference in cams first and then the diff when the red was added, but not very cost effective.

what about the FP green, you don't have to choose between cams and the Red...?

I dont see why someone would do a turbo upgrade before cams. It is like doing a turbo upgrade before a cat back. The cams help the head breath. The turbo feeds the head air. Mods should go in a certain logical order. I think the cat-back analogy applies here...

Look at my sig, I put these numbers down WITHOUT CAMS, WITHOUT TB, WITHOUT Intake manifold, and WITHOUT head work...

I say buy the turbo and plan for the cams later, cams will help produce more power 20-50whp depending on the tune and cam profile AND carry the power through out the end of your power band where as with the stock cams your power will fall off sooner but you still will have plenty of juice.

Cams alone will net you less gains than upgrading the turbo, if you are going red plan to build the motor for it to be reliable and making the turbo efficient for its power capabilities and boost level, sure lots of people are producing power with a stock block but personally I dont see the point of risking something like that.

I have hks 272's and they idle super quite after tuning of course and i put down 360hp/350tq on ttp's mustang dyno...

I think the route everyone takes is the cams on stock turbo and then if u get bored of the power u move up to the green/red/black...

personally to me the hks 272's and tune made a huge difference at first but now i do want a red or hks 7460 lol...

yes theres also a guy in so cal with stock cams and fpgreen doing mid 400whp numbers on e85 ( i think )......
so you should consider what type of reliability you are after.low power/great spool or high power with a slight higher spool.more stress on parts with more power.so reliability/drivability is key...

get cams and turbo same time or if you have money for only one now i would personally get the turbo as its more expensive and required you to save up more.

I plan on doing the red and cams at the same time, I never heard of these but I do see a couple people mentioning them, I was planning on going with hks 272s cause I heard they are mild and very street friendly, I will look into these, thanks for all the good input guys. Also some added info, I will be running 93 pump gas because the closest E station is 15 mins away and the only one in the area. My main plan with this car is to emphasis streetability and driveability, I do not like solid motors mounts, aggressive clutches, a rough ride suspension wise, I have had all those things and disliked them, so with this car I want to keep it very driveable.

It seems to me that valvespring upgrade is needed with the gsc s2 and not the s1's, does anyone have any exp with both stages and driveability/streetability?

i have s1's and unless your sticking with stock turbo, i dont recommend them. get the s2's with the gsc beehive springs. they arent expensive at all
