idle issues
i recently got some GSC-S2 cams installed (w/tune) and when I got my car back it did the same thing. I took it back to the tuner and told them to fix it. This seems to be a common problem with bigger cams. I'll let you know if my tuner fixes it or not.
well to add my 0.02 i know theres a table you can make adjustments on for when the a/cs on...i rarely roll with my a/c on at idle...now have u gone through the basics...boost leak test im assuming?? do you have a wideband? at idle are you goin rich or lean??
Mine does this also when coming to a stop light sometimes and it has been doing it quite often ever since winter came about. I think it has to due with the cold weather/air temps/size of cams. I know two evos where one runs HKS 272 cams and the other runs Kelford 272 like me. Well guess what the HKS runs fine while the Kelfords FAIL. lol
In my case the car goes full lean (21 afr) if I'm idling in closed loop or very rich (10 afr) if I'm running open loop. Weird :/
If ur on cams most prob thats causing the idling to die. I found a way to curb this. Before your car comes to a complete stop switch to neutral. Do not clutch in with 1st gear. Abit tedious yeh, works well with A/C and without
I too have a similar problem. With defroster or A/C on the car goes lean and idle drops to like 500-600rpm when I come to a stop, then slowly recovers. i have the GSC S-1 cams. I had some success with fixing the issue with latency adjustments, but the last time i disconnected the battery, the problem came back WTF?
Are you certain it is not the IAC?
To check if this is the problem, you can pull out the idle control valve by removing three screws that connects it to the throttle body. While the valve is out have it plugged in, have someone turn the key to the on position, but do not start the car. You should see the valve move when the key is in the on position. If it does not push out consistently, or just spins freely it is time to replace.
There are two styles of these valves I have seen. The 03's have the older one, which has three plastic teeth that move the acutator back and forth which tend to wear out. My evo was an 04, which came with the redisigned part, but they also wear out.

I have this problem too. I believe it is the IAC but I'm too cheap to replace it as the car still runs alright as long as I don't load the engine with A/C and radio and stuff. I might try to remove it if I were you and put it back on because it should reset after it "learns."
