Debating on buying an Evo..
The Evo is phattttt!. With the all wheel drive, traction control is the thing of the past. In the rain or in the snow, this ride is good to go! This is just my opinion, but I feel safe in this car. I used to mob a 01 Mustang GT. Not a safe car in the rain. Had an 99 Eclipse GS-T, and it didn't do it. Got this all wheel turbo.....perfect fit! I would recommend it.

Having owned the audi, I am quite famillar with the awd system. Although many owners of awd think the system will prevent loss of control at speed, they are simply wrong. Awd does nothing for traction at speed, just at the launch. My question about traction control is more regarding the yaw of the car, for instance, say I had to do an emergency lane change in the rain on the highway, what systems would protect me? Is there a braking control system that would or is there nothing at all? Thanks for the replies guys!
and i still have an 89 3.0 alfa milano! there is no comparison to the evo but the alfa's were very fun cars. my milano has 50/50 weight distribution and rwd packing 190hp was not bad. i plan on using the alfa as my beater.

Ha! I owned an '86 GT-V6. Drove it for two years before it caught fire and burned to the ground (I'm not kidding). I'd have to agree that it had a few similarities with the Evo. Hopefully the electrical system isn't one of them.

Had it for 5 years; had my share of breakdowns and thrills.
Sold it to a friend who then smashed it against an Audi A8 (!!) a few months ago...

The Milanos felt great when I test drove them. Test drove both the 2.5 & 3.0 engines, but the 3.0 engines gave the car that extra muscle. Same platform, same suspension between the Milano & my GTV6 but the cars felt completely different..
ChandlerBing,
You seem to have a fairly good grasp of what to expect from the Evo. No, it doesn’t have yaw or traction control and if you get into a bad situation (like very abrupt lane change) it is all up to you and the Advans.
I was getting onto 285 about two weeks after getting my Evo and had to dodge some debris on the ramp. If I had been thinking I should have just sucked it up and hit it. Instead I let instinct work and swerved hard to miss it. I was doing about 65 and yanked the car hard to the left. I believe that if had been driving a poorer handling car I probably would have lost it. The Evo held on without a peep. I realize this stuff is subjective, but I think you would have to be pushing the car VERY hard, or being very foolish, to get it to swap ends on you.
Best wishes,

Ah, 285, the autobahn of atlanta. I appreciate the input. When I was driving the M3, the traction control would always come on. I attribute this to the RWD. With the S4, I couldnt really get the TC or Yaw control to come on, depiste the power, so i think i could live without yaw control. mmmmm, decisions decisions. I read on a website the the braking system can determine which wheel has the most traction and adjusts the braking bias accordingly, is this true?

interesting, I may stop by rick case, thanks for the tip!
Also, no one has really addressed the traction control issue. I really would prefer this on the car, yet it seems that the braking system and the diff's have this feature, yet mechanically, can someone elaborate for me? thanks!!

Passive restraints are the bare minimum, driver and passenger airbags only. However, an informal examination of crashes posted to this bulletin board as well as a video circulating of an Evo VII flipping multiple times at a driving school in France reveals that the structure is quite robust. This is important because body structure is more important than passive restraints as far as occupant protection is concerned.
The bottom line, the Evo will kill your G35 in off-season traction, but you have to accept the investment of a decent set of snow/all season tires to really use the car in the winter. In a crash, until we see some NCAP/IIHS numbers, who can tell? The forward structure is almost completely different from the Lancer, so it's unlikely we'll see these results any time soon.
