Evo rims...a hot item!
I was at
getting my oil changed and was chatting with a guy i know there. He was telling me that their dealership got jacked for 4 sets of Evo wheels about a couple weeks ago. They were Evo's in the inventory area in the back. Left em on blocks. Are our wheels that hot of an item right now?! I mean damn! They straight took em for the dealership. I guess i better get wheel locks then.

Wheel's aren't the only thing that's being stolen of Evo's. I went to 2 different Mit's dealer when I was shopping for mine and both dealers had the Recaro seats stolen. The sales guy told me that those are like $3,000 to replace. I don't know if they were BS or not on the price of replacement.

I doubt 3 grand for the seats is right, Ive seen quite a few vendors you can get them from there the Recaro Sport seats, Hell you can even order em straight from Recaro with heating and massage units and ****.

One of the major factors affecting replacement cost is that Mitsubishi has to stock them as replacements for years just in case someone needs an Recaro seat for a 2003 Evo in 6 years or so after the car is out of production... storing and keeping track of those parts is expensive. I remember reading that for any car, buying the parts alone to build it from the parts counter at the dealer would be at least 3X the sticker price of the car... this is before you factor in labor. I used to work on lean manufacturing software, using principles that the Japanese invented to reduce cost and increase quality... it's pretty amazing how much easier it is to control costs when you know exactly what your input and output should be day in and day out... but when they have to manage supply channels for an unpredictable demand (i.e. providng the end purchasers with parts and support), it becomes wayyy more expensive. And of course the manufacturers are more than happy to pass the cost to us.. they have enough trouble making money as it is.
Here's an example. I went to Mitsubishiparts.net, which is generally cheaper than the dealer. On this page, you can see the factory recaro seats and order them: recaros Once you add up all the parts for the seat cushion, the seat back, and the racks, it works out to be $2560 PER SEAT. At the dealer it would be around 3 grand undiscounted. So it looks like that's the real price, folks.

i didn't get the lo-jack when
offered to me. i think i'm gonna get now. i mean i have an alarm and everything, but how many people do you know that will even get involved if they hear an alarm going off..........none, because it's not their car getting jacked.
