STM Oil Cooler Kit Install (Pics)

I went ahead and chose a spot to mount the STM Oil cooler today. I know it says to get peices of metal and drill holes to mount it, but I was able to mount it using the stock holes with no extra pieces. What I did do was take a dremmel and make the holes bigger on the cooler. Also I drilled the small hole so it is now able to use the original bolts.

So, Is this a decent choice on how to install it? Location etc.

What are the advantages of this over the stock oil cooler? Looks to be about the same size if not a little thinner.

This is meant to be a stock replacement kit. Its main advantage is the price tag vs. an OEM unit. Even though we have not tested it back to back vs. stock I would assume it cools better due to it having a lot more cooling rows. I ran this same kit last year in my Evo with a hard block/no coolant and even on the street I never saw oil temps exceed 160 F.

At the track oil temps would get up around 150 degree's from waiting in line and racing. On the shut down they would cool back down to around ambient. It seems to work pretty well.

It looks to me that the inner fender liner or whatever that is behind the oil cooler would act as a backstop and not let any air pass thru the oil cooler. Should you have some amount of open space in front of and behind the cooler to allow air to pass through?

IIRC the wheel well liner behind it is vented to allow the air to pass through.

Yeah there are some vents in the front of the fender liner.
