sorry to bring this old thread back, but i was just wondering how does the quality of the rexpeed carbon handle compare to the OEM IX MR carbon handle?

i had no idea the USDM IX MR even came standard with the carbon handle. I always thought that was a ralliart option part.

I'm still using the CF handle with no issues. It has faded/pitted a bit near the top where the button is to engage the parking brake but the CF portion is fine. I'll try and take a picture of it if I remember today.

I like the Rexspeed e brake handle. The quality seems just as good as OEM.

Did you read the thread?

I've never done it but I gather that it just pulls off. It isn't threaded but twisting would probably help break it loose.

Didn't realize my thread had gotten bumped since 2010.

I got mine off by actually cutting a small slit in the OEM handle and peeling it off. It wouldn't pull off originally because there was too much glue holding it on from the factory. I probably couldn't re use the OEM handle but that's wasn't a problem.

I got mine off years ago. I recall using a hair dryer to heat the thing up and then I was able to yank it off.

i bought the mitsubishi ralliart aluminum ebrake handle and it came with instruction on how to remove the stock black plastic handle. you just have to use a blow dryer and heat gun and twist it off with ease. im assuming it being held by some strong adhesive.

Heat gun is a good idea. I did like one of the posters above...you slit the handle and use a lot of arm power to overcome the glue and it will come off. Of course if you go this route the OEM handle is toast. The heat gun may allow you to re-use it if you could glue it down again.

Seriously... It took literally 2 mins to replace

So... I finally got off work a bit earlier and wasn't totally wiped out. I thought I was going to have to run an extension cord from the garage out to the car and get a hair dryer and blah blah blah...

Step 1. Grip the Factory ebrake handle
Step 2. Twist like a man to the left
Step 3. Twist like a man to the right
Step 4. Slide Factory ebrake handle off
Step 5. Slide Rexpeed Carbon Fiber Handle on
Step 6. Insert screw on the bottom left and slightly tighten
Step 7. Insert screw on the bottom right and slightly tighten
Step 8. Align Handle and Tighten Left Screw
Step 9. Tighten Right Screw

Total time: 2 minutes from start to finish

Who has questions?

Seriously not that hard or in the least difficult to do whatsoever.

umm yeah well done mate

did you read, this is for evo 1-9 thread and if you look all of the above poster have CT9a evos.
Im guessing your evo X's handbrake isn't as tough to remove than the earlier models.

but well done for bragging about how much of a man you are and by finishing so quickly too

did you use a stop watch?

Luckily my best friend is from Brisbane so I am a bit more adapted to the Australian sense of amusement.

UUmmm.. No I didn't look at any EVO 1-9 threads as I don't have one.

It wasn't tough to remove, which is the point I was trying to make, albeit in a round about manner.

Each individuals experience is different with his or her car though.

Cheers Mate

I think you missed his point which was that it's probably different to take off on an Evo X as opposed to an Evo VIII/IX. So basically how easy it is to take off on an Evo X isn't relevant to this thread which is about the VIII/IX
