You should flush any intercooler before installing it.

Grain of salt. At least specify some parameters of the test. You can't just say that it heat soaked after one pull and expect to be taken seriously. For all we know it could have been a 5th gear pull on a dyno with cardboard over the grille and no fan.
Thanks very much and I told them to flush it. Only reason I used this is it seemed like a simple fix for putting the car back to stock with a new stock motor. It had a Buschur (Race) on it and we couldent use it so this seemed to be a better fix than trying to find a used stock FMIC. Just want a good stock driver for my sons 1st car. In my opinion they are more than fast enough stock for a 16 year old and we are gonna use all of our money on mods that make it look bad azz!!!!

I went to get a tune today and the mishimoto ended up being garbage. 2 psi pressure drop and my Evo can't make real power with it. was told to put the stock FMIC back on or get something better.

Just need to add, that I still made 374whp and 366wtq. S&R said to swap the intercooler and they'll have me over 400whp. Boost is at 19psi.

Anything to back up your claim? Dyno charts perhaps?

I guess this (somewhat) confirms that this intercooler isn't much better than the stock one...stock heat soaks around 370"ish" horsepower

This has to be a fake. Clever scheme though, stamp on a bootleg logo upside down and lie about it being real.

Plus, if this was a company defect, why would they still be selling this intercooler in sets of 10 on ebay four months later? Seriously.

If that's true, it's a master piece of forgery. The box, the wrapping paper and the warranty card are all mishimoto stamped. The packaging was rather nice.

Maybe I should call Mishimoto and ask why their intercooler sucks.

I wonder how it could have more pressure drop than the stock intercooler?

In theory, with the FPI, number of charge tubes and tube size between both intercoolers, it still should have a lower pressure drop than the stock intercooler. If anything, it should have less heat transfer, but lower pressure drop, which would equate to a faster spool and power increase until it becomes heat soaked. I'm perplexed.

MY EXPERIENCE/OPINION:
I put it on couple of months ago, not because I wanted to upgrade, but because my stock IC had a LOT of bent fins.. so I thought let's give it try.

I went for a tune last month, it was pretty fine.. I got the car tuned after I changed few other things too.. so I couldnt tell if this IC causes power gain or loss... made a nice 270KW, or 362HP for our American friends

The big test: Last Sunday, I went to the track, it held up just fine.. No problems at all.

My verdict: Good stock replacement.

Are most of these experiences with the Mishimoto universal intercooler? Or the Evo 8/9 specific model? There is a huge price difference, so I assume that there will be an equivalent performance difference as well.

I am running the Evo viii/ix specific intercooler and have ha good luck with it. I am running 27psi with out a problem. If is deff not a fake, it is stamped with the mishimoto logo in the top of the core, it has there logo all over the filler cardboard, box, warranty card, ect. I even had to use the warranty due to a damaged unit (upon arrival). On the v. dyno I am putting down 336whp using this unit. (on my base map) as we start throwing timing at it, I will update with new power numbers.
