What is this? Help!

I'm out at Sno Drift and earlier tonight I pulled over to the side of the road and went in the ditch. I was able to get out by going all the way in and gunning it and all seemed good. On my way back to the hotel I stopped to get gas and my SEL was on. So I popped the hood and this was sitting on my valve cover unattached. The wire runs over the valve cover with the throttle cable. That's all I know.

I just had my crank sensor replaced, did the shop forget to plug something back in? I have a 6 hour ride home and plan on going to an Autozone to get the code read in *******, but this should be attached to something. Does anyone know what it is and where it goes? Sorry for the poor pics, but I did the best I could with my surefire.

So does that mean it popped off? How was my car running or even starting with that disconnected? Where do I need to go to reconnect it?

It goes under the crank sprocket, which is under the timing belt, which is under the timing cover. How the F is your car running?

it must be disconnected then. that must be the old one just hanging out on your engine bay.. it must like your car lol.

the car wont receive any spark or fuel without a signal from the crank, so its certainly hooked up if you drove your car.

you went into a ditch...soon after your cel came one. I would be willing to bet its your rear o2 sensor. Possibly ripped it off or damaged the wire. If so you will be fine to make it home.

Yeah, I went out last night and followed the wire back and it is the old one, the mechanic never took it off of the clip and just left it. Thanks for the help though guys! At least I know the light is my fault and not the shops, lol.
