Same amount of work as doing a clutch.

if you are running a multi-disc clutch clutch chatter is normal, but it usually chatters when the clutch is pressed in, hes saying pressing the clutch in makes the sound go away, which is usually the sign of a bad throw out bearing

You have rode the clutch enough to warp the flywheel with heat, you have had a throw out bearing go bad, OR you have a main bearing in the transmission going bad.

I can pretty much guarantee it is not the last thing. The first two are more likely. Just think back when you first heard it and there you have it. You will know.

Do you have a lightweight flywheel?

This^^.

If the sound goes away when the clutch is pressed in, its your throw out bearing. Change it with the clutch
