Gauges: accuracy and looks.

I need to get some 60mm gauges for the center console. I have been hearing mainly about Defi, and Stewart Warner are the "best". Those reviews are from 08 or earlier. However, unfortunately, looks are something I care about as well. I really like the smoked out gauges that Defi Produce. This is a crazy priced gauge for a little kid, like myself, to buy. I am considering the other options, but thinking they are too cheap to be accurate (like prosport).

What I like: smoked out gauge that lights up: preferably red with peak/warning lights.

Defi, STRI, Prosport, "shadow"? all seem pretty similar (which is what I like).
shadow gauge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfqKBWS0yhY

If I stride away from the looks I prefer and just base my purchase off accuracy, then I would consider Stewart Warner.

Really not trying to pay $250 up for gauges..

Any recommendations and/or vouching will be appreciated.
Thanks

I've been using a Prosport premium 60mm boost gauge for nearly 3 years now without any problems. If you can afford to **** away, er, I mean "pay" that kinda money for Defi gauges, go ahead. I've personally never heard anything bad about them, I'm just not gonna pay over $200 for one gauge THEN another $200+ for the controller it needs to work.

I heard the red Prosport gauges are hard to look at in daylight , or did they fix that?

A Gauge is a Gauge the only ones that really needs to be accurate is the wideband and boost. Make sure you get a good wideband. 99% of the time youre using the other gauges to monitor any change in reading not so much an exact target number like the wideband or boost.

If you want accuracy, get VDO, but you won't get the cosmetics.

I have my gauge set up with the white back lighting because the red was hard to see to me. I'm wondering the same thing about their widebands too. I started a thread on it, but no one has replied to it.

Look for STRI gauges, I think they may interest you. I just ordered 2 of them in the xline series, a mecanical boost gauge and an electrical oil pressure gauge.

For the wideband, i went with zeitronix.

Those do interest me, thanks! I never heard of them before? Are they popular with Euros?

A gauge is a gauge? I don't know about you but I like knowing what my motor is doing at all times. Saying "a gauge is a gauge" is a retarded comment. Boost and sideband are not the only important gauges. Oil pressure is another must have gauge.

So you cannot compare a pro sport gauge to a defi gauge at all, the accuracy is just not there. All though I love my Stewart Warner gauges. The only gauges I would run would be defi or Stewart Warner, why spend the money on a useless un accurate gauge?

I have 3 Defi Gauges. I absolutely LOVE them!! They light up the EXACT same color as the cluster They look professional and discrete. I didn't want gauges that were flashy and to look like something a kid from high school would get.
