Question about torque..
Hey folks, I got a dyno tuned recently and my car made 346 torques but somehow I don't really feel that torque when I drive it. For example, when i take off in 1st gear it feels like it's not that fast (even a jeep wrangler passed me) I wasn't boosting, I just drive it up to 3500 rpm then shifted to 2nd gear. Is this the way our car is designed, is it not suppose to move fast unless you go into boost?? I got a tune already and I can't think of anything else. It's on a stock turbo btw, I don't want to hit 4000rpm everytime i take it off from first gear, but it seems like I have ppl right behind my car if i shift at around 3200rpm. Can you guys think of anything? Anything would be helpful. Thanks a bunch.
I'd say you're gonna be slow off the line to a Jeep Wrangler gunning it vs you just driving leisurely to 3500Rpm and shifting. 2.0 liter turbo isn't going to have much grunt down low, and if you aren't in boost you aren't making much power. I'm sure your car is fine, its just you driving leisurely and everyone around you trying to get going in a rush.

Thanks for the info guy, and if any of you want to call me a noob it is fine with me. I just switched from a rsx so I expected a lil more out of the evo but now I do know what it's really is.

Also, your power depends on how much you are pushing down the throttle.
Example: If you are at half throttle and no boost you will be making more power than at quarter throttle and no boost.
It just, you talk about shifting early. These are slow until the turbo spools. 33-3500rpm is where the fun starts, below that is bleh.
Just driving around I usually shift at 45-5000 which is enough to get a taste of fun, "spirited" driving is ~7000.

You are not driving a big block chevy. It's not going to have gobs of power down low in the RPM range. To make matters worse to be able to run the boost the Evo does the compression ratio is pretty low which makes it even worse when off boost. So yes, if you want it to feel fast you have to go into boost.
