Air Filter Question

Alright so today I installed my MBC and i mounted it to one of the bolts on the top of the radiator fan. Because of where I mounted it I can't have the air intake funnel there so i took it off and as of right now i have the stock intake box with no funnel so i imagine i'm losing some power by sucking in all the warm air (since the opening is on the engine side).

Anyways I am looking at intakes now but I would prefer to keep the stock intake manifold. I've searched and found some filters (Apexi, HKS, K&N) that bolt up to the stock manifold but the threads I found were from years ago. I'm wondering which filters are recommended for the stock manifold or if they haven't changed much over the years.

You just need a MAF adapter to bolt on an aftermarket intake filter

turbo>stock intake pipe>MAF>MAF adapter>filter

If you're looking for a whole intake system I'd highly recommend the Perrin.

Samco tube with Buschur/Vibrant filter and adapter are the best setup. People recommend the Perrin because of the 5 or so hp difference, but I'd rather have the torque the Vibrant gives. The Perrin intake is not as smooth internally as the Samco btw.

not as smooth? have you even seen/felt the inside of the perrin intake pipe? you cant get it smoother than it already is.

I did the test and that filter is one of the last I'd recomend, the screen isn't stainless steel so it rusts and the filtering media removes bugs from the intake air but that's about it, it lets tons of dust and sand through. I unfortunately had one on my IX for ~13k miles.

Have you looked inside the Samco?

not saying the Perrin is a bad filter because I have the Perrin, Vibrant, old buschur bolt onto MAF, and about three different others. They all filter about the same. The Perrin left a fine layer of muck inside my intake pipe. Don't take offense to it, just sharing my experience. My engine has been just fine. I drive my Evo a lot.

I just prefer the torque.

That mean's you over-oiled the filter...or didn't clean off the excess when it was new.

They do not all filter about the same.

Thanks I saw someone else post something similar to what you said. I was considering the vibrant filter but I care about my engine too much to let that much dirt/dust in.

Not sure it really matters but aside of the performance value, the Perrin filter added a bit of class with the black cone filter and white lettering. Just looked better in the engine bay. That and after reading Kracka's review, I knew I made the right choice.

Coming from a ARC intake, I liked how the Perrin filter sounded too
