How do i delete my EGR?

I have a 8mr and im having the p0401 code and rough idle. What all is needed to delete the EGR?

Block off plate and disable the code

So do i HAVE to disable it in ecu or can i just put the BOP on and deal with the code until i get a tune and disable it then?

From what I have personaly seen its around 8whp +/- 2. if ur hunting for everying pony then i think its worth it, but keep in mind u will be doing this at the cost of mpg and the car would usualy take a bit longer to warm up (maybe an additional 4 mins or so).
