EGR.... is it needed?

Well i did some searching and theres mixed answers. Some say your car will run fine others say youll have idle issues and other issues. All agree that it will throw codes, which you have to dissable egr test in periphery bits.

I was thinking of deleting the egr today but dont want any idle issues. Thoughts?

No. You don't need the EGR. If you do the delete plate, make sure you use the patch ROM to delete it from your ECU.

I've had mine deleted for about 3 years, roughly 12k miles. All that emissions crap is useless and might as well take it all off. Just search the Ecuflash forum and you can find all the needed patches to pass emissions testing and to not throw CEL lights.

only thing is...If you have the stock intake mani, just removing everything and using a EGR block off doesnt do much for you. the EGR port on the intake mani that lets exhaust in the intake mani from the head needs to be blocked. If not your still letting 900 degree exhaust into your intake mani. If you take the intake mani off, the port on the head that the exhuast moves through can be threaded with with a 1/8 npt. Then get this:

You will have alot cooler intake temps and cleaner intake manifold.

The EGR is hangover from the carburetor. It's useless in fuel injected engines.

That said, since the OP is from MA. Leave the EGR in the car for spot inspection purposes. The EGR and evap hardware can easily be disabled in the ECU. The EGR will stay closed unless activated by the ECU, so you don't need a blocking plate.

You can but no real benefits will be had. Blocking off the port in the head and bypassing the throttle body coolant lines will keep the intake air cool, EGR releases hot exhaust air into the intake making it dirty and the air obviously very hot.

The #4 exhaust port in the cylinder head has a hole that runs next to the #4 port on the intake side.
