i was driving my 03 evo 8 the other day and took a left hand turn. heard a loud bang from the engine bay and then the car bogged down to almost a complete stop. i was able to get it home but was limited to 5th gear and 30mph. now when i start it its running extremely rich with a bouncing idle. what could this be, o2 sensor, tranny, engine? My car needs help!

 

check your charge pipe, it prob blew off.. were you under boost when it happened?

 

ya i was in 1st just starting to boost

 

Yeah that's what it sounds like. When you blow a intercooler pipe it makes a loud bang like you blew something. When you start it up it'll run like crap. So check your upper and lower piping.

 

That's what happened in my 2g. I was in 1st and I started building boost and pop. The ucip slid off.

Yeah I would check your pipes. Then report back when you find out that that was it!!

I think this has happened to almost everybody here. I know the first time it happened to me it scared the crap out of me cause I thought I blew something up!!

sounds like a boost leak.. easy fix.

 

i agree with blown pipe, first time it happened to me, I was giving someone a ride and boy was I embarrassed. lol

First time it happened to me I was on my way to work. I thought at first I messed something up, then I got to thinking about stuff I had read on evolutionm.

Good thing I carry a tool bag (yes I know how that sounds) so I was only 10 min late for work. Fixing it on the side of the road in wet grass sucks even more so in the dark.
