What timing light to use on the Evo

So I have a half way nice timing light however It does not register anything on the evo.

So I put the pickup on the wire that goes to plug #1, I get nothing from the timing light. If I take the wire and just put a plug in it outside of the cyl if the plug is grounded it would not register however if the plug was not grounded the timing light flashes.

I have tried different plugs.

BPR7ES
BR7ES
BR8ES

Any ideas would be helpful.

Also about 1 month ago I put an AEM EMS in my car and I was able to use the exact same timing light on my car with out issue. I also tested the timing light on a few other cars to ensure that it was working.

A timing light is not needed on the Evo. Use a scanner.

+1 I've never heard of anyone using a timing light on an Evo. The only way we set the timing is by using the timing "marks" on the valve cover, the one on the crank pulley, the ones on the block behind the lower timing cover, and the one on the outside of the lower timing cover.
